You want answers?

You want the truth?

You can't handle the truth! Son, we live in a world that has formations. And those formations have to be run by men with pads and cleats. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Deus Irae? Bill Belichick have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Mankins and you curse the draft picks. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what Bill Belichick knows: that Mankins holdout , while tragic, probably wins game. And his torn sweatshirt existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, wins games...You don't want the truth. Because deep down, in places you don't talk about at supebowl parties, you want Bill Belichick making draft decisions. You need BB in the draft room.

BB use words like tiger right 3 wide...we use these words as the backbone to a life spent defending something. You use 'em as a punchline. BB has neither the time nor the inclination to explain himself to a fans who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very Lombardis, he provided to New England, then questions the manner in which he provided them! He'd rather you just said thank you and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you pick up some pads and stand in at right guard. Either way, nobody don't give a damn what you think you're entitled to!

probably the single best post i have ever seen

Is it possible to give a single response 5 stars?

AndyJohnson's post at #40 is also very well put.

Am I the only one who thinks that the rampant use of the terms "chicken littles" and "homers" on this board is really lame?

Hatred and/or segregation is easier when you can dehumanize a group of people. By applying a generalized label, it helps achieve the desired result.

No. I've been whining about it for years.

Great one!! :)

Can you please send it to all the friggin Boston-based reporters covering the Pats?

I've seen a lot of negative whining over the last couple of days. Heres the Truth, there are 31 other teams with GMS, coaches, and players (some very very good) that are being payed miliions of dollars. The only goal of those gms coaches and players is to win the SB under penalty of losing their jobs. No one can win the SB every year, especially the way the league is set up. Most SBs have been one by a small number of teams, i'll go out on a limb and say that only half of all teams have won a SB in their history. Between Kraft and Belichick the pats have gone to Five SB's and have won three, not bad. For those that think that this is a mediocre combination go follow another team like the Colts, Steelers, Cowboys, or Chargers for example, they're all winning teams but they haven't been as successfull as the Pats. They make just as many mistakes if not more than BB otherwise they'd have a better record over the last Fifteen years.

Like Parcells said "You are what you're record says you are"

I'm not sure what your point is, but here are the stats on SB wins and appearances.

18 Franchises have won Super Bowls
Seven Franchises have won a total of one Super Bowl: Bears, Buccaneers, Chiefs, Jets, Rams, Ravens, Saints
Three Franchises have won a total of two Super Bowls: Broncos, Colts, Dolphins
Five Franchises have won a total of three Super Bowls: Giants, Packers, Patriots, Raiders, Redskins
Two Franchises have won a total of five Super Bowls: 49'ers, Cowboys
One Franchise has won six Super Bowls: Steelers

14 Franchises have never won a Super Bowl
Two Franchises have appeared in four Super Bowls, without a victory: Bills, Vikings
Two Franchises have appeared in two Super Bowls, without a victory: Bengals, Eagles
Six Franchises have appeared in one Super Bowl, without a victory: Cardinals, Chargers, Falcons, Panthers, Seahawks, Titans
Four Franchises have never appeared in a Super Bowl: Browns, Jaguars, Lions, Texans

28 Franchises have gone to the Super Bowl
Ten Franchises have gone to a total of one Super Bowl: Buccaneers, Cardinals, Chargers, Falcons, Jets, Panthers, Ravens, Saints, Seahawks, Titans
Four Franchises have gone to a total of two Super Bowls: Bengals, Bears, Chiefs, Eagles
One Franchise has gone to a total of three Super Bowls: Rams
Five Franchises have gone to a total of four Super Bowls: Bills, Colts, Giants, Packers, Vikings
Four Franchises have gone to a total of five Super Bowls: '49ers, Dolphins, Raiders, Redskins
Two Franchises have gone to a total of six Super Bowls: Broncos, Patriots
One Franchise has gone to a total of seven Super Bowls: Steelers
One Franchise has gone to eight Super Bowls: Cowboys
(Four Franchises have never appeared in a Super Bowl: Browns, Jaguars, Lions, Texans)

Same here. I'd rather use a set of vicious racial slurs to describe the two groups.

Pittsburgh has six Super Bowl wins in seven appearances, Dallas has five Super Bowl wins in eight appearances...better than the Pats in both areas. And, don't forget, Indianapolis has five September Super Bowl titles :D

I prefer describing the two groups as

"fans" or "supporters"

and

"pessimistic observers", or "red soxes fans, with nothing to do after the baseball season is over" or "fans of other teams"

Oh, I thought they were "dumb as a box of rocks" and "Wrath of God." Now I'm all confused, again.

I'm not sure what the point of this thread is. I don't think anybody here or on any other forum can deny what the Pats have done in the past. They've been great, no doubt. It's been a sheer joy and a pleasure to follow this team over the last decade and I look forward to a new decade with a new competitive team.
Now that im a little bit more awake i'll try to answer

Lately theres been a lot of complaining about BB and his poor decisions, i've even read whining about his moves in past games. What i'm attempting to point out is that for all the mistakes BB may have made, or percieved to have made hes still far and away better than anyone else in the business.
That we (the Pats) can't win the SB every year, there are 31 other teams trying to do the same thing, and some of them are very good. But BB and the Pats are the best going by the teams record of games won and SB's. So don't take what you have for granted and post how incompetent BB is, or how you wish we did things like team x, y, or z does it. Because if you were a fan of another team you'd have much more to complain about, even if those teams were the Colts, Steelers, Saints, or ......the Jets. Its one thing to question moves or draft picks, its another to constantly bash the orginazation like borgus, or felger, or sarandis.

I'm not talking about ancient history. But i will see your five indy SB titles and raise you 6 Jets draft/train camp titles.

What is even more amazing it the Jets won three superbowls in the same season...first they won the OTA superbowl, then repeated with the pre-season superbowl and then won an amazing third superbowl with the week 2 superbowl victory over the NEP.

"Apparently you can't argue against a naysayer without being a homer, and you can't argue against a homer without being a chicken little. Honestly, it's the attitude of most of these extremists that sucks, not their opinions."

I come to this board several times a day (unemployed, have plenty of time) for the entertainment value. Some Posters are funny, some are incisive and unfortunately, some should keep their fingers off the keyboard (like me for instance). Anywho, I think the above quote is correct in that it calls out a minority of posters who think their opinion is the only one that counts.

The truth is this.
The only reason to label someone is to attempt to use that label to diminish the value of their opinion.
The only reason to need to label instead of discussing your viewpoint is that you are failing to effectively debate your position.
In other words calling someone Homer or Chicken Little is the desperation of a failed attempt to support your position.
There are some posters on this board that believe they are playing to an audience.
It isnt the disagreement that ruins the board, in fact, the disagreemnt is healthy. Its the posters who have weak arguments, or discover their arguments are weak, and then resort to playing to the audience with labelling the poster to avoid the post, ignoring key facts in the debate, or simply resorting to personal insults.

I understood why you posted it. I just don't think it was warranted. Sure, you have the absolute CL's here like captain stone and Garbanza. They are the definition of negative posters. They deserve the attention in this thread. However, as usual, there are posters in here who are lumping in honest posters who have been nothing but positive toward the Pats and their leadership on several issues with posters like captain stone and Garbanza. This is just because these posters have been critical over a few moves and decisions that are pefectly open to criticism. That's usually what threads like this boil down too. Posters who are never, and have never been, critical of decisions made calling out posters who are critical of some of the decisions made and vice versa.
