Reports: Burgess not at camp; considering retirement?

Re: Burgess considering retirement?

Tom Curran has something on the situation:

Given the option between another month of fishing or splashing with the kids by the pool and ramming into grown men in 90-plus heat, some guys opt for the former.

Could Derrick Burgess be one of those guys?

He wasn't at practice and has not been seen at the facility. Earlier today, Bill Belichick said that, "All the players under contract are here."

Questions swirling on Burgess status

Re: Burgess considering retirement?

The reality is that we drafted a player Belichick considered one of the top OLB's in the draft. Cunningham will need to get a lot of reps, as Mayo did in his first year, as Guyton did. And yes, Ninkovich will have more reps than last year.

.....2009................................................2010
BANTA-CAIN....................................BANTA-CAIN
BURGESS........................................CUNNINGHAM
WOODS..........................................WOODS
THOMAS & NINKOVICH.....................NINKOVICH
MAYO (part year)............................ MAYO
GUYTON.........................................GUYTON
SEAU..............................................SPIKES & MCKENZIE
ALEXANDER.....................................ALEXANDER or MURRELL or FLETCHER or WILLIAMS

Contemplating retirement.

Re: Burgess not at camp

Well, when an aged veteran retires at the start of camp, good things have happened in the Belichick era. Someone might want to get Greg Ellis on the line though.

Re: Burgess considering retirement?

This is dumb. OLB was clearly a need with lots of question marks going into the offseason. Burgess was never a shoe-in to comeback, and Crable has been "Mr. Glass." Yet all we did was draft Cunningham. Why didn't we draft Worilds along with Cunningham or at least another DE/OLB? We instead draft two TEs, a position that's not even utilized in our offense.

At least we have plenty of draft picks next year.

Re: Burgess considering retirement?

I noticed there's actually a DUMPSTER advertisement at the bottom of the page. Wasn't that where they fished Burgess out of last year? Maybe Bill should rummage around in there some more and fish out the latest washed up jag.

"Oh, but this was gonna be Burgess' second year learning and applying the system."

Hey, it ain't friggin rocket science.

Re: Burgess considering retirement?

One positive note. I think every Super Bowl winning season started with an aged veteran retiring at the start of camp.

Get Greg Ellis on the horn. He might be a good replacement. He's got experience in the system too.

Re: Burgess considering retirement?

Logan Mankins for Manny Lawson? and a third? Logan prefers to be in California. Manny is still young and wants a new contract. or Ahmad brooks San Fran is DEEP at linebacker. Pick up the phone BB.

Re: Burgess considering retirement?

For the 132nd time, Mankins cannot be traded. He is not a signed player.

With regard to trading, I'm sure that the FO has been in discussions with teams since before the draft, as it always is. The question is who is available at what cost. There is no question in my mind that a 2011 2nd will be offerred to someone.

Re: Burgess considering retirement?

NEVER a dull moment:singing: So what is BB's next move? The Crab? Ellis? Or someone else......?

Re: Burgess considering retirement?

Well that is a shock!

In Bill We Trust.

Re: Burgess considering retirement?

I love a mystery...

Who is the OLB that will come in and make an impact....

Is Colvin still available?

Re: Burgess considering retirement?

If Mankins wants to be traded he can sign his tender then can be traded correct?
Also I brought up the niners cause some said he wants to be on the west coast.
That being said i'm aware that the niners drafted good lineman, If they got Mankins they'd have arguably the best o line in the nfc.

Re: Burgess considering retirement?

I loved Rosie:(

Re: Burgess considering retirement?

And why should this be considered unusual?

This is getting to be a yearly occurance, it seems every TC someone retires.

Re: Burgess considering retirement?

There's only one answer. Cunningham is a savant. He's picked up all the assignments and is already leading classes for the rest of the team.

He's also bigger and faster than his videos would indicate. He apparently dehydrated himself his last two years at Florida, so we could sneak in and grab him in the second round. Once he drank a gallon of water, he became so big, the visiting McGinest ran out of the stadium to go pump some iron.

Lawrence Taylor, visiting while out on bail, was reported to have dropped to his knees and cried "I am not worthy" after witnessing a Cunningham pass rushing drill. Obviously these "retirement thoughts" and "conditioning failures" are simply face saving techniques to salvage the little pride those players have left.

This is depressing:mad: our OLB is by far the weakest link... the rest of the team is really really good if the new WRs work out and Mankins plays:mad::mad:

Thats what i'm saying its not, at least with the Pats its not. Andy Katzenmoyer retired in during TC 10-11 years ago, and it seems to happen every year now.
