He looks like a Clippers fan to me.

Would it be better knowing that he grew up in California and was dropped in NE by the luck of the draft? At which point I guess to some, if not most, he has to lose all former allegiances he had to all other professional sports teams. :bricks:
So do the same rules that apply to your fandom, apply to his? Meaning, if you moved to Atlanta and rooted for the Celtics to beat the Hawks, how would that sit with you? Or should you fall in line with the rest of the town and root for the Hawks? Even though you grew up rooting for the Celtics – Or does his “celebrity” trump that argument.
I just think this whole thing is blown WAY out of proportion. At some point everyone needs to realize that Brady is the Quarterback of OUR team, and that's it. Nothing more. Despite what everyone wants, outside of the game of Football, he's just another fan……..of the teams HE chooses to root for.
Do the same rules apply to my fandom? Obviously not. I'm in NY now and root for Boston teams, and nobody cares. See, I'm not the QB of the NY Jets. It's a ridiculous comparison.
Tom Brady can be a fan of whoever he wants. But I don't think actively rooting against HIS fans is cool. He wears the Yankees cap.....roots for the Lakers.....oh, and when he was younger he visited Montreal and became a huge Canadians fan, I assume.

Ok, So his celebrity does in fact come into play in your scenario. His personal allegiances should be forgotten and he should root for the home team.....oh wait, he is rooting for the home team.
I don't think it's a ridiculous comparison, but I understand why you do.
And really, is he rooting against his fans? I mean, come on. At some point you have to let Brady's personal life go and allow him to be what he is - The greatest QB of all time that plays for our football team. That is enough for me, clearly not enough for some.
But it's disinegenous to act like we don't care about the off-the-field actions of the players on the team we follow. Is this a small thing? Of course--Brady's not out there raping women like the Pittsburgh QB (or Bryant, for that matter, but that's another discussion.) But in the spirit of being part of the Boston community while he's here, how about laying off the post-loss embraces. Just sayin'.
By the way, I'm a pretty involved Celtic fan. And I have no problem with this. Just two athletes who dominate their sports chatting.
Well.. I think what Tom are doing now is not as dominating as when we won the spygate SB. I mean the guy always had a great team behind him. Even the league helped him and the team to win some more games and awards than they should've won.
Yes, Brady's been a great QB for the Patriots. But it's disinegenous to act like we don't care about the off-the-field actions of the players on the team we follow.
Actually some of us don't really care one way or another. Guess what? Your favorite athlete might not be like you. Maybe they like the Lakers while you like the Celtics, maybe they're a democrat while you are a republican, maybe they like cats while you like dogs. Who friggin cares. They aren't your friends and never will be. There is no reason to become emotionally invested in their off the field activities.
Sorry, I see nothing disngenuos about the fact that I could care less that he joked around with Kobe. I could care less that he probably rooted for the Lakers or that he likes the Yankees or that he once said on WEEI that if he had to choose an athlete's jersey for his son to wear he'd probably go with Jeter. He also plays golf in the off season with Peyton Manning who Pats fans hate more than anyone and is known to be friends with Jason Taylor a career long Dolphin and current Jet. The teams he likes or the friends he has are none of my business as a fan unless perhaps he is breaking laws or doing something else that is unethical with them.
Now some of the passes he made in the 2nd half at Miami, those genuinely bothered me a lot.
Except that's not what I said. I said it's disingenuous to act like we don't care about off-the-field behavior. Now, the previous poster said he didn't care at all--and if that's honest, then fine--assuming it extends to all behavior.
To clarify again, playing golf in the off-season, rooting for different teams, being friends with other players, all is fine. This is about the context of Brady loving on Bryant after his team beat the Celtics in a crucial championship game. Lame.
Dood, you're too sensitive if this crap bothers you. Lighten up, or post this crap on a board for people with similar disorders.
If that's the way you feel--not caring at all about off-the-field behavior--then that's absolutely fair. And certainly any objective observer realizes players are as flawed as anyone, etc. But if a player on my team is a dog fighting, woman abusing, a-hole, I won't enjoy having him on my team as much. That's just me.
Sorry, I'm enjoying the conversation, "Dood." Don't get your panties in a bunch.
