Re: Steelers ship Santonio to the Jets

you can officially say that it will at least be entertaining to watch the jets this year......they've got some real character issues on that team.....either they will be scary good, or the whole team is going to explode

Re: Steelers ship Santonio to the Jets

LOL, you are a homer.
Oh, and you aren't a Jets homer? Tell me again how bad Thomas Jones and Lito Shepard are that you won't miss them. Weren't you bragging last year about how deep your secondary was with talent?

Holmes was the first offseason move the jets made that might help them.

Otherwise:
Jones > LdT
Shepard > Cromartie

And remember, it was a 4-game suspension BEFORE he threw a glass at a girl's face. The suspension is for pot. Goodell has yet to rule on Holmes latest episode. At least Holmes will be right at home in the locker room. When he's allowed in by the league.

Re: Steelers ship Santonio to the Jets

Braylon Edwards, Santonio Holmes, Crotchery....

I'm about to push the panic button,if Sanchize c&n be just decent, this team is 12-4.

IF Brady or Manning were on this team, they'd go undefeated.

Shepard was atrocious,Cromartie is a decent upgrage with high upside.

The Jets might be the best team in the nfl on paper, Sanchez is the x factor.

Re: Steelers ship Santonio to the Jets

The Steelers have been one of the model organizations for a long time. The Jets haven't won squat since Namath. If the Steelers are saying it's worth getting this guy outta here for next to nothing, it's probably going to end up not being a good move for the Jets.

Sirius NFL Network this morning is saying he's being suspended 4 games for substance abuse, not the other legal issue. If he's failed a drug test now for at least the second time, he's a problem.

B. Edwards was a problem in Cleveland, a bit of a head case, and now is a Jet. Chromartie was a problem in SD, a bit of a head case, and now is a Jet. Holmes was a problem in Pittsburgh, a bit of a head case, and now is a Jet.

The trade seems good on paper, but these moves don't usually pay off. That disfuctional locker room thing is a recipe for disaster, and can bring the most talented teams down.

I say the Jets had a good thing going, and now have actively traded for three other teams problems. One was bad enough. Two would have been worse. But, THREE? This could backfire BIG TIME!

You forgot LaClassian. He'll be packing it in and sulking by mid-November once the weather turns cold and they need him most.

Re: Steelers ship Santonio to the Jets

The Jets are gambling a 5th round pick

LT was a FA pick-up

Cromartie was a 3rd round pick in NEXT year's draft

Where these "risks" that the Jets are taking?

Sure seems to me Tannenbaum, the Jets GM is doing everything possible to find low risk/high reward moves and remaining aggressive in going after quality talent and not having to mortgage the future to do it, despite the constraints of the elite 8 rules against him.

You're spinning your self dizzy.

"Where these "risks" that the Jets are taking?"

First of all, I'm not one that automatically says other teams moves suck. And this move, on paper is a fantastic move. I'm telling you though, the "risk" is the punk factor, and the adverse locker room issue. Sure lots of teams have players with issues. Last year Cleveland had Braylon Edwards and all the crap he brought. San Diego had Chromartie, and all the garbage going on with him. Pittsburgh had Big Ben and Holmes, and the baggage that comes with them. Well, guess what? the Jets traded players and picks for Edwards, Chromartie, and Holmes. Three of some other teams key "problems" are now the Jets problems. Anybody denying there is risk there, doesn't closely watch sports today. Maybe the risk is worth it in each case, and maybe Rex Ryan can mitigate any of the negative things these players bring to a locker room. But, to miss the obvious risk..............if Holmes wasn't a risk to the well being of a team, the Steelers wouldn't have given him up for next to nothing!

Re: Steelers ship Santonio to the Jets

BTW, the Washington speculation is coming from the clown Florio, there are some NY bloggers that are coming out saying there is no truth to the Leon rumor.
That's too bad. I'd like to get Leon out of the division. To the Steelers isn't ideal, but it will leave the Jets with only one real RB option, an unproven Greene. Loads ofpotentail but yet to prove durable enough to last a year as bell cow. LdT is a joke.

Tunescribe, as usual, you are right on the money. I forgot all about him. He's a Hall of Fame whiner, pouter and complainer. I have a big Charger fan that sits next to me at work, and she says the Charger locker room is going to be much better now, without LaCrymian and Chromartie. I'm sure there were plenty of Browns fans to say the same thing when they got rid of Edwards, and I'm also sure the Steelers' brass must have the same line of thinking on this move. If Holmes the talent, was worth not shipping Holmes the person off for a 5th round pick, they wouldn't have done it.

If I were to ask everyone reading this, which NFL team has the biggest chance of Locker Room implosion based on the head case factor, you'd be hard pressed to come up with a better candidate than the Jets. If their respective teams are jettisoning off talent like that, they must have come to the conclusion that they weren't worth the trouble (with the exception of LaCrymian - his issue was different - he's just losing his skill set with age). Now all these problem children are on one team, and that's not a risk? Hmmm.

Re: Steelers ship Santonio to the Jets

I]Freakin Belichick and his hording of draft picks[/I]. It makes so little since to me,
It makes no sense because what you are saying isn't true.

Name a team that drafted more players than the Pats last year.

Name a team that had more rookies make the roster than the Pats last year.

Name a team that had more rookies start for them last year.

Name a team that had more rookies log regular season playing time las year.

BB doesn't hoard picks. He breeds them like rabbits.

Re: Steelers ship Santonio to the Jets

Not sure if anyone posted this but the Jets already traded their 5th rounder to the Eagles for Sheppard......so, I wonder what the deal really is a third maybe??

Re: Steelers ship Santonio to the Jets

So now Washington, coming off of a broken leg is legit 2nd round value?

No, that was the tender the Jets gave him, which would force a team to give them a 2nd round pick.

Even with Washington, it's a steal, but it does add more value for the Steelers.

Thing is, Washington is coming off of a big injury, and probably won't be fully healthy until a few games into the season.

Washington was a second round tender RFA. Whether he is worth a second round to acquire is irrelevant if he is included in the trade (which it looks like he isn't) because that is what it would take to sign him and steal him away from the Jets. It is conceivable that by Thursday someone signs Washington to a contract and gives the Jets a second in compensation (although I don't know how likely it is). That means that in value, the Jets give up a second rounder.

Granted, since it was an unconfirmed rumor he was included in the trade and it hasn't been authenitcated. it looks like just a rumor.

They traded a 2009 4th and 5th for Sheppard, and got a 2010 5th back. That is the pick that has gone to the Steelers.

Re: Steelers ship Santonio to the Jets

Leon being included is just a rumor. WTF. If the Jets really just gave up a 5th rounder for Santonio, then this is one of the dumbest trade I've ever seen. If anything, the Steelers should have traded this guy to a horrible team and not to a contender like the Jets, who the Steelers will have to deal with in the playoffs.

poeple have to stop realizing that it's the quality of picks not the number of contributors you draft that count. the jets didn't have many picks last year but they took Sanchez and Shonn Greene. Those two players carried them into the AFCCG. Therefore, the Jets draft was BETTER last year than ours.

Re: Steelers ship Santonio to the Jets

WoW, Holmes was the 1st WR taken in that draft and Chad Jackson the 2nd.
