To all of the coaches on this forum...

Welker hurt himself because he tried going all out after Houston scored a touchdown effortlessly on their first drive. It is obvious that Welker was in playoff mode by the way he was hustling.

It is very possible that Welker would have hurried himself and hurt himself later in the game or in the playoffs. He had been banged up many times by virtue of receiving the most passes of any player in the NFL this season. This implies that he had been tackled (sometimes aggressively) more often than anyone else in the NFL this season.

In a way, we have to deal with these repercussions during the regular season, and get time to other players to step up.

It's better that this happened after we secured the playoff spot. It's also better that this happened before an actual game that counts. Such a season-ending injury happened just at the right time, and the timing could have been a lot worse.

The fact that he hurt himself from exerting effort, not from being hit, means there was a chance this would happen during playoffs. And regarding the loss, it doesn't really matter.

Let's field the best team we got, and then execute. We can beat any team in the playoffs if we play our best and coach our best during the game. We still have weapons on offense without Welker.

Our real big question is the defensive performance in the last quarter. Even with Welker, we were not good at catching up late in the game. Thus, our defense needs to play really well to preserve the lead in games.

I thought it was pretty obvious. It was at that point I knew Welker was done. I assumed Brady went in there to get more real game experience with Edelmann in the Welker position.

If that was the reason then I am even more disturbed with BB
Risking a Hall of Fame quarterback with bad ribs and a gimpy knee to give reps to a rookie slot receiver with a bad forearm in a meaningless game?

If I were the OC next week I would go 3 tight ends and have Connelly as fullback. Brady under center and ram that pill right up the Raven's ass. One problem there is I saw Connelly limp off the field. Looked like AIken got hurt late too. Not sure who is left and what BB will do.

My guess well...see previous post

I posted early this week that I would sit Brady, Moss, and Welker. The Patriots could have used Aiken, Edelman, Stanbeck, and Slater at WR (like they did after the 2 minute warning today). It wouldn't need to be an "either or" decision between Moss and Welker resting.

Coach Belichick made his decision and this time it didn't work out.

With all due respect, why do we care what you would have done? I don't mean to disparage your opinion, but it doesn't really matter what some fan would do. The reality is most coaches do at least let their healthy starters play at least the first series, quarter, half. BB has traditionally let his starters play almost the whole game. It wasn't really a decision as it is a philosophy. He's always done it this way.

Since the team was resting players, Welker shouldn't have been playing. He's the receiver who takes the most, and biggest, hits, and his 'backup' Edelman could have used the snaps.

He has been healthy all year. If anyone was going to get a break, it would have been Moss with his bad back.

So you would rather those reps come in their first playoff game? If they have any hope of winning that game, then those two need to be on the same page.

Thank goodness you are not our OC, although there really isn't any chance of that being case given the above.

Welker missed games with an injury earlier in the year.

It was a non-contact play in the first quarter. It was a fluke. There is nobody to blame.

Moss' injury has been more chronic.

And the circle closes...

So the couple of tosses to Edelman was worth having Brady take that late sack on the INT? Price/Value ratio not in your favor. Brady has bum ribs and working behind a makeshift Oline. Remember? But In BB WE Trust Right?

Wow
A scathing retort.
So you would go 5 wide with Edelman and that Oline against the Ravens?
Good luck with that.
All you have to do is watch the 2nd half of ALL the 5 road losses to see where that will end...but hey....In BB and Your Intellect We Trust...right?

It wasn't meant to be a scathing retort. As for what I would go with against the Ravens, what the hell is the point of replacing one illinformed, unexperienced fan opinion with another.

Re: To all of the coaches on this forum....

Yes I thought the same. Either BB decides to
1. play to win or
2. treat game as a bye week and rest or
3. give some 1st half reps for consistency, momentum, etc.

But how do you explain Brady coming back in-- but then not coming back in for the final drive. Was Hoyer hurt?

Very odd.

I think you are right here for the most part......the biggest question here is.....WHAT was BB's intention going into this game? Was he going into it to WIN it and get the 3rd seed? ......or the 4th seed like most of the talking heads seem to think we would be best playing for it.......Now, I was not surprised to see him start Brady, Welk, Moss etc.....but just did not expect them to not only stay in the game for such a long time...and I certainly did not expect them to COME BACK IN after the backups had replaced them........again, no one is in the Brain of BB.....but hard to figure exactly what he was trying to accomplish.....losing welk was huge.....but there are so many holes on this team right now....from OL weakness to secondary failures.....that we weren't going to get much further anyways....that is the reality of it

Well at least you admit your lack of insight
Thanks for playing

You shouldn't care what I would have done. My point was that it certainly was possible to sit both Moss and Welker which the original poster suggested was not possible.

The only reason I posted what I would have done is to point out that I had that mindset before the injury, and was not simply reacting to the poor result of the decision not to sit key players.

That's funny, because I seem to recall the last drive of the game where neither Moss or Welker was on the field, yet they somehow managed to line up and play the game.
