In fact, that year, Wilfork's first was when they also had another tough NT Traylor.We haven't won one with Wilfork either
Ok, given the current cap situation, draw up that contract for us, please..... let's see the numbers.
5 year contract (including this year, although an extension starting next year works also)
$25M bonus
$2.2M 2009 salary guaranteed, increasing by 30% per year
total value $44.04 or $8.08M per year
2009 cap = $7.2M or an increase of $5M
===========================================
There are a dozen ways of coming up with $5M of cap money, given the the current available is $6M. The simplest elements are restructures for Brady and Light and an extension for Faulk. If you need a cut, Green is the man. We still don't know if his bonus will be paid if he is traded, but even if not, his salary is over $2M.
===========================================
The question is how much it will take. An additional $1M or $2M of cap money would increase the total to $9M or $10M a year, which is doable.

Miguel has posted this many times. If the patriots want to come up with cap money, they can do it. The real question is how much they are willing to pay Wilfork.
Personally, I think that the Patriots would pay Wilfork a signing bonus in 2009 and an option bonus in 2010 thereby minimizing the 2009 cap hit.
I don't think the franchise route will work with wilfork..........1st he's the a guy with his own set of principles and someone you don't want souring on the franchise because once he does, he will not play here.......and he's exactly the kind of guy who will refuse to play for the franchise tag on principle alone.....especially given it would mean 6M........on top of that, I would not be suprised to see pioli or mangini or even mcdaniel come around willing to give up a couple of first rounders for him......
also, he knows the score as well as anyone else as to what happens when it gets to franchise time, so don't be surprised if he holds out now.......it worked for deion branch, and you know other dogs will come sniffing around with their 'tampering' and very possibly create a similar situation where the pats will have to trade him just like branch

Tonight on Comcast Sportsnet,, Michael Felger in discussing the Patriots OTA's with Tom Curran of NBC Sports claimed that Wilfork wants Seymour money. Wilfork, who is a regular on the show, communicated to Gary Tanguay, another anchor on the show, that he wanted $32 million over 4 years including $24 million in guaranteed money, according to Felger. With a DT franchise number of $6.0 million per, and Wilfork only being a two down player, Vince and the Pats are at an impasse.
Might explain why BB drafted (3) NT's this year.
Saying Wilfork is not a factor against the pass is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever read on this forum.
I think they should get it done.it is still early. He wants Seymour..but 6-8 mill somewhere in there should be fine.. Not sure it will..but?? I don't think it is outrageous...and as far as I KNOW they drafted only two nose tackles...Richard is more a DE, DT than a NT...and Wilfork himself wanted teh team to draft Raji...so they did the next best thing...Brace.
