What we learned from Day 1...

Re: What we learned from Day 1..

When you draft a marginal first round pick in the top 10 and following up with an undraft free agent quality and the 22nd ranked safety high in the second round, of course you are going to be awful. I hate Raiders fans in general, but I actually found myself feeling sorry for them.

I wondered why I hadn't heard of that Mitchell guy..

Well, we shouldn't have to worry about any contract squabbles from our rookies.
That's a good thing.

amen, they'll probably be all signed a month before TC

This is almost as bad as drafting Janikowski in round 1... almost. ;) Al Davis needs to be institutionalized.

Nah.. It seems like Davis is the only one who lets the Pats swindle him so they can move up for a player.. Everyone else seems to turn their backs unless the Pats are moving down.

I love all the picks, though Vollmer does seem to have been taken a round high. I'd have loved to add Barwin or Sean Smith, but the Pats added players that I know will help this team. Both short term and long term. And that is what matters.

The Pats just about guaranteed that they can add their draft picks without a lot of messing around with their sal cap. And, they probably will be able to add a Taylor or a Peppers pretty easily.

1.) Al Davis is turning his Raiders into a division III college team

2.) Denver is going to be very aggressively seeking quick improvement

3.) Kansas City will be more methodical

4.) The Giants realize Eli can't get it done without an elite receiver

5.) Mangini doesn't like the Browns roster very much at all

6.) The Eagles seem to finally be serious about getting McNabb some help

1.) BB does not need Pioli to move up around the draft board.

2.) BB could not get a 2010 1st rounder from anybody. That sucks.

3.) Mangini got raped by the Jets.

4.) Our secondary is very crowded.

5.) Mel Diaper Jr. is absolutely horrible and is completely clueless about the Belichick/Parcells tree.

What I've learned:

1. BB didn't like any of the guys I liked nearly as much as I thought he would.

2. BB didn't like the 1st round values very much - he thought the value was in the 2nd and 3rd rounds.

3. BB seems comfortable with our current group of OLBs - he didn't prioritize the position as much as I thought he would.

4. BB seems comfortable with our situation at DE and didn't make it a priority.

5. BB went for size on the lines and speed in the secondary.

6. BB seems comfortable with the OL as it is for 2009.

Well reasoned.

How about Mauawhoga? OH that's right, passed on him too and he dropped outta round 1.

you must have me confused with someone else. I am a Laurinaitis fan. I've stated on multiple occasions that Maualuga would have been a bad pick for us. If anything him dropping past Laurinaitis is evidence that the NFL agrees.

Of Interest, Vollmer is the first European that has a legitimate chance to become a NFL starting player, and not as a kicker.

Igor Olshansky rumbles Hi.

I also love this pick in terms of our red zone defense. Wilfork and Brace in the middle at the same time ... that's some serious beef.

Also when we are in the 4-3 we'll have Warren, Wilfork, Brace and Seymour ... :woot:

Big part of the value.

We learned that we'll probably rue the day that we let both Rey M and James The Little Animal slip through our finger tips, "twice"...........

We learned that BB in classic BB fashion gives us his classic R1 and R2 TV smashing reach pick for a guy that was described by some scouting services as a solid FA post draft pick up. I'm still scratching my head on this one with Beatty on the board at that point.

Paul Kruger is picked right before Vollmer, I'm just wondering if Kruger was truly our eye-pick at that point and when Baltimore f'd that up for us BB then reached for this no-name tackle. I'm wonderin............Yes, I'm still scratching my head for this friend of a friend of a friend that BB knew from UOH who happened to mention a looksie at Mr. Vollmer, a second round pick with no ESPN draft tape...............um YIKES !!!!!!!!!!!

Yet that oooopsie is definately countered with the Chung and Butler picks, our secondary is set for a long, long time............Chung and Meriweather could be the next Atwater and Dennis Smith, what a tandem they are going to be.

Guarantee? LOL. Ok, exaggerate much? I do love his physical measurables, but how fast can he get up to speed with the pro game? How raw is his techinqiue and how much 'coaching up' will he require? Is BB counting on his 'mental maturity' to speed how fast he can step in to a contributing role?

Barring injury, it'll be a minor miracle.

What I learnt from day one

1. BB (like Mayock) thought this was a poor draft
2. The NEP will 80% of the time trade down
3. Were gonna run more 4-3 this year
4. Mock drafts are useless:cool:
