Here is some quick bullet points, on what Day 1 means..

1 Those idiotic mock draft that these draft guys, mcshay , kiper and so on and so forth mean crap...

2 Bill Belichick thinks the draft is a joke, when you have to reach for a german late in the second round as a project, and trade up for a guy that might have been there at 47..

3 The only lb conclusion is , Jason Taylor will be a pat, and the julius peppers talks is offically dead..

4 Shawn Crable will be heard from this year..

5 Cant help but be giddy though with the Butler pick and at second round value..

Second round, maybee some pass rush, more o line man, and look for Louis Murphy Wr from fla to be a Pat

There is nothing worse than to be a Raiders fan period, they are awful..

When you draft a marginal first round pick in the top 10 and following up with an undraft free agent quality and the 22nd ranked safety high in the second round, of course you are going to be awful. I hate Raiders fans in general, but I actually found myself feeling sorry for them.

What I've learned:

1. BB didn't like any of the guys I liked nearly as much as I thought he would.

2. BB didn't like the 1st round values very much - he thought the value was in the 2nd and 3rd rounds.

3. BB seems comfortable with our current group of OLBs - he didn't prioritize the position as much as I thought he would.

4. BB seems comfortable with our situation at DE and didn't make it a priority.

5. BB went for size on the lines and speed in the secondary.

6. BB seems comfortable with the OL as it is for 2009.

It's always extremely tough to know what way BB will go... Once again I got "schooled", only pick I had nailed was Chung but I thought he would be at 58... Never saw him at 34! Rodney's replacement though.... Knocks you into another zip code!

Bill Belichick sees the players on his team at every practice session. Apparently from these picks there is way more talent at LB then we thought. Since th DE--> OLB is a multi-year process, what we think of the players before they finish the transition, is a lot different that BB thinks at both OLB and ILB.

Guyton is apparently a real find, and a future starter at ILB.

Woods, and/or Crabel and/or Redd must be really impressing Bill at OLB.

We have needed a reserve NT and someone to take some reps to keep Wilfork fresh. We have him now, and depth at the Defensive line is set for a half decade. We are now 7 deep with DLs, and all can play.

The secondary depth now is spectacular. Butler is a good talent. Chung is the best of a weak S class, but the Pat's Safety position is now fine.

I was watching the picks dwindle down and was sure that Beatty was going to be called, but instead they picked Vollmer as an OT, when they had a choice and he must have impressed them, to bypass Beatty. The thumbnail draft reports say he can't play LOT, but I don't think he would have been drafted that high, if he couldn't be at least respectable there. The Pat's don't really need an instant starter, so I thought Beatty was a great choice as the knock on him was that he was somewhat of a developmental project. Vollmer even more is a developmental guy.

Of Interest, Vollmer is the first European that has a legitimate chance to become a NFL starting player, and not as a kicker.

Overall. from the pattern of selctions, this Patriots Team is even more loaded than we thought.:singing:

I also love this pick in terms of our red zone defense. Wilfork and Brace in the middle at the same time ... that's some serious beef.

dont forget TBC as the 3rd down OLB pass rusher. I agree, we will see more of Guyton at ILB. I dont think we are too bad at LB right now

You're just figuring this out???

Its unlikely that Brace would have been there at 47. Why? Because you have the Dolphins and Texans between 40 and 47. Both would have been drooling over the idea of adding Brace. Next, add in the Broncos who are looking for a NT and could have been looking to trade up ahead of 47.

The talks may not be dead. However, it will only be a pick for next year if Peppers is traded. Their adding Hood will help lessen the need to keep Peppers.

Adding Butler tells me that Springs will start the season as the starting CB opposite Hobbs, but that there will be an all out war between Springs, Butler, Wilhite, Wheatley and Hobbs for the starting CB spots. I think that Springs will end up spending more time at safety in the long run.

I think you mean Day 2 or 3rd round. I look for the Pats to add an ILB, OLB, OG/C, WR, at the very least. I'd also like to see them make a trade into 2010 with a couple of their picks.
