We know Brady is one of the best QBs in the playoffs and under pressure (but that's not for this thread :D).

Really? Hes been abysmal in the last couple playoff games. He was so clutch against SD throwing that pick to a guy he knew would fumble, and so clutch missing wide open Moss like 10 times in the superbowl. He was so clutch with his 3 INTs last year against SD. He was so clutch throwing the game against the Broncos in 2006 away.

I like Tom Brady, but the last time he carried the Pats through a playoff game was in 2004.

Synovia

"Clutch" has two different definitions.

The whole body of the game- Brady was "clutch" against Jacksonville 26-28 through the entire game.

The game on the line (situational football)- Brady was clutch against san Diego last year. last two drives were touchdown and end the game.

Jacksonville spent the entire game without blitzing at all. There was NO pressure in that game, despite the fact that the last 6 weeks or so had shown that Brady was unstoppable if you gave him time, and much weaker if you put a lot of pressure on him (see the eagles, and ravens games, and later the SB). That game was decided by extremely poor gameplanning on jacksonville's part, not Brady being clutch. Their game plan assured that the Patriots would score on almost every drive, and eat up huge chunks of time on each drive. As soon as jacksonville fell more than 7 points behind, the game was over.

I'm sorry, but I'm going to need more convincing that throwing 3 picks in a game is a clutch performance. Brady doesn't throw the picks, and thats another 38-14 game, if not worse.

If you say so.. most football experts "might" disagree but i'll take your word for it.

I'm curious to hear just what players you consider 'clutch' in sports, based on your guidelines?

brad is hell bent on making TJ the future of this team, so unless a higher up makes him go with someone else i dont expect it to happen

Since the Vikings already have a stellar offensive line, a good pass-catching TE and Berrian, I think Cassel would have moderate success if on the team next season. I can't imagine he would have as good a season as he did in NE this year because (1) new system/new coach and (2) doesn't have the best slot WR in the league since Troy Brown.

I think the comments by the writer says more about the Vikings team as a whole than it does about Cassel. It is already a really talented team that is missing either a game manager at the QB position, a good coach, a stellar QB or any combination of the three.

I'd love to see Cassel end up with the Vikes- he deserves to play on a good team.

On a side note, though, I'm really looking forward to seeing how good KOC turns out to be...

"experts" also called Vinateri clutch after Superbowl XXXVIII for making a 41 yard field goal (roughly 90% chance of making for average NFL kicker), despite the fact that he missed two 30 yard chipshots earlier in the game.

Clutch is a word that lazy sports reporters use when they don't know what else to say.

The patriots win so many games with Brady because hes very good, not because of some ephemeral sports buzz word like "clutch"

Right, theres definitely a decline in the surrounding talent, but Cassell has also only started 15 games (well, 16 really, KC counts to me), and generally QBs continue to improve their first two or three years of starts. How much of this is offset by the fact that Cassel isn't a rookie, I don't know.

For what its worth the Vikings offense has good talent no doubt. The biggest things holding the offense back comes down to simply poor coaching. Brad Childress has had three years and while he finally got the Vikes into the post season you also have to look at how poor his coaching was not just during the wild card game but during just this season alone. I really wish the Wilf's would wise up and realize the Childress experiment is just not working and its time to find someone who can lead the Vikings to being a team that is an legitimate playoff team.

And speaking of idiots, the Wilfmeister is asking the cash-strapped citizens of Minnesota to pony up more than $650 million dollars to buy him a new stadium, and says he shouldn't have to pay any of it back.

Considering these economic times, and the record of his team, that's an awful lot of chutzpah.

What is his last name again?
