Zappe waived (Edit: so was Malik!)

I would like to shamelessly plug myself for saying this since last week.
I have no doubt they'll try to get him on the PS...
But, I'm glad BB still sees eye to eye with me - we need a better (vet) QB2
I'm betting on Trevor Siemian. (and I've been right so far)

A bit alarming Patricia got more out of Zappe than savior BOB.

Question: Which week this season will the Gillette crowd be fervently chanting the next #2's name?

In early with the season's dumbest take(s), eh?

No problem here re Zappe. If he clears waivers, he'll either be on the PS or back where he was, sitting there waiting for Mac to get steamrolled behind Bill's Random Selection of Fat Guys, aka the O-line.. This move suggests they might want him on the practice squad. If he doesn't clear waivers (unlikely, I think), then I thought they could just bring in some vet with a little gas left in the tank and either put HIM on the PS or make him the backup. If after all that, we end up w/ no on-the-roster backup...well, who knows. Maybe something is in the works; maybe it isn't. I wish they had kept Malik on the roster tbh. He didn't help himself by being so abysmal as a receiver. The edgy move, which I kinda like, would have been to have Malik serve as backup, which could give him enough work to develop as a qb, given the team some valuable looks in practice when they were to face a "mobile qb,", and so on. Then, if that were a bust (if "edgy" turned out to be "stupid," which can happen), or maybe just premature, you snag your oldster/Zappe (whichever you end up with) off the PS, and then, Malik's stock at that point having fallen, you take a chance on waivers. I think it somewhat likely some other team will now pick him up, which I think is regrettable, but not the end of the world. Malik is a project, yep, but a very interesting one. I'm hoping the O-line is not so bad that the season resembles Joe Louis' Bum of the Month thing: each week a new lamb to the slaughter.

If he does clear waivers, is it clear he wants to come back here?
I think if he clears waivers he'll go anywhere that gives him an NFL contract. The most likely team perhaps being NE.

It's why I don't pay much attention to "fans." The idea that Zappe was going to replace Mac was silly.

I don't think the idea of it was ridiculous, I just think the scape goat way in which people just clung to him after he had a mediocre game against the Browns and Lions as some sort of proof of what he was, while completely ignoring Mac's entire rookie season of work, was cherry picking at its finest. I went into camp expecting Zappe to push Mac and have it be an intense competition, with a winner taking starting role. Instead, Mac put his ballsack right on Zappe's face PEDton Manning style, and took the starting job convincingly

I think a lot of people were frustrated last year with the team overall, I know I was, and just decided to pin it all on Mac as an easy target

Its clear Fatty Matty's offense was a complete clown show, its a season we'll never get back.. but there was definitely cherry picking about what was and wasnt the issues

I hope Zappe clears waivers because he's still an experienced backup in our system, but they obviously dont think that highly of him if they're willing to risk losing him to the roster shuffle.. and i hope they gave him some towels to soak up all that Mac ball sweat, it can sting if it gets in the eyes

Personnel decisions on pro football teams are not run that way.
Jeesum. I sure hope not. That sounds more like my Mom's old bridge club than a football team. "Sorry, Madge, you have to go. Ellie said you hurt her feelings when you said her camisole made her look like a taxi dancer. "

Not shocking. Like I said earlier today he simply looked like he did not understand the offense.

Mac's been working with BoB since last spring. I don't believe that there was ever a competition at QB this year.

Having said that, your description of Mac's PEDton impression was pure art. Well done!

I agree. The Zappe we saw last year was competent in those two games, and a cheap backup who knows the team is a good thing.

You forgot to add: subsequently waived after poor preseason showing.

Your bit about the 65k fans is way overstated, of course.

Yep. That whole thing got distorted. Few said, "Zappe is better than Mac; start him." People (well, I) said that for a spell there Zappe (the stats showed) outplayed Mac, which earned him honest consideration, a fair evaluation over time as to his suitedness, or not, as starter. I and I am sure others said at the time that to the extent that made for "a competition" (Arguing over the use of this term was the worst aspect of the whole discussion: an utter waste of time.); it was a "competition" Zappe was likely to lose. That this was so did not mean Zappe had not earned the shot, the fair consideration. We (used to?) hear a lot of lip service around here that ALL jobs were open to competition, after all. Oh well. He sort of did get his shot in a way, to an extent, sorta (pick the qualifier you like), and he did lose. I guess that means we were right, LOL.

My jaw is on the floor

Zero backups on the roster. I was hoping for at least Cunningham to make it because he did show us flashes of something different, you know, actual athletic ability in a QB?

Anyone got Kevin O'Connell's phone number? . . . no? . . Rohan Davey's? . . . Michael Bishop's? . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Hugh Millen's?

Edit: I'm sorry I didn't know about Ryan Mallet's death and I apologize if I upset anyone.

Checkers vs Chess my friend, BB is eight steps ahead as usual.

Let this sink in. Coach B. was able to obtain more (7th round pick) for a 38 year old, 15 year veteran placekicker, who had himself retired for a year (2018) than he was able to get in trade for our second year backup QB! Of course that’s assuming Coach attempted to make a trade but then again perhaps he already realized what the real trade value was….
thats just a commentary on the market for reliable placekickers compared to the market for mediocre QBs.

You forgot to add "under BOB's tutelage."

I imagine there was a petulant minority who didn't enjoy Patricia opening up the play-action playbook to #LetZappeCook.
Same group loved Cam's QB sneak offense.
