Am I alone in thinking people are way to harsh on the 06 to 08 drafts ???

The 07 draft was awesome - with Welker and Moss coming for only picks ! Didn'T we also set ourselves up Mayo in the 07 draft. 06 was light compared to others in the BB regime, but starters came out of it (which doesn't always happen on "normal" NFL teams). 08 produced Mayo - defensive rookie of the year.

Secondly – and perhaps most important – this move smacks of a coach who is planning to stick around for the long term. From 2009’s massive draft class to the stockpiling for the future, Belichick appears to be planning for the remainder of Brady’s career in New England, and perhaps beyond.
This article just reminded me of speculation a few back that BB was loading up for one last shot before moving on. Pundits...

People always ignore when they talk about the 2007 draft that 5 of their 8 of their picks were in the sixth and seventh round. On a Super Bowl caliber team, sixth and seventh rounders face an uphill battle to make the roster.

It is still too early to judge 2008 because Whilhite and/or Wheatley could turn into the real deal. Slater was a key contributor on special teams last year.

This year could produce 5 or 6 starters of the future. Chung, Butler, Vollmer, Brace, and Pryor look to have decent amount of playing time this year. Tate could be a steal when he returns from injury. Same with McKenzie. Endelman could be a find as a seventh rounder who could turn into Welker-Lite.

2006 -- mediocre first-rounder (Maroney). The rest of the draft provided a Pro Bowl kicker and a bunch of guys who were gone 3 years later after contributing one year of starting between them.

2007 -- after the first round they traded out as much as they could, and the guys they picked didn't work out in the slightest

2008 -- outstanding first-round pick, and after that the jury is out.

Which is why Belichick is becoming more devoted to replenishing the roster’s youth and star power, something that might not require such a drastic move with Seymour if the draft classes from 2006, 2007 and 2008 hadn’t been so disappointing. Of the 26 players in those three classes, linebacker Jerod Mayo(notes) has shown the makings of a star, kicker Stephen Gostkowski(notes) has been to a Pro Bowl, and safety Brandon Meriweather(notes) looks like a solid starter. The rest? Those still on the roster appear to be little more than forgettable depth chart ballast.

Sums up my post yesterday. Why don't you write him a ton of emails on why he's an idiot to come up with such garbage?
