Would you trade Kevin if Josh calls

Only if Julius comes with the trade

Re: OT: Will you trade kevin if josh calls

A #3 next year? Why would they do that?

They drafted O'Connell in the 3rd themselves. They've polished this rough diamond to the point of NFL capabilities where he can legitimately be considered #2 in the hierarchy. They've developed and invested in the kid up to and beyond what a #3 would ostensibly be worth.

They already caught some public relations heat initially when it was perceived they were helping out old friend Scott Pioli with an undervalued trade. I don't really think they want to walk down that road again.

Besides, I believe the book on O'Connell was he has a higher ceiling than Cassel did, but that's something only the future will reveal to us.

The Patriots could conceivably trade the kid at some point in time, but certainly not for what you're offering.

Re: OT: Will you trade kevin if josh calls

Absolutely not. I really like his upside.

Re: OT: Will you trade kevin if josh calls

KO'C isn't the future. Tom Brady is only thirty and has a good six to eight years left with the Patriots. I wouldn't be surprised that the next QB after Tom Brady hasn't even started his college career.

Don't try to sell that to the message board madden crowd. Here you're either the next Tom Brady or you're Walmart material. There is no inbetween.

Unless KOC did something over the last 6 months to convince BB he's the village idiot, or Gutierrez beyond redeemed himself given his second shot at a roster spot, Kevin is VIRTUALLY untradeable this season since he is the #2 backup to TFB. People were sure Cassel was a sack of **** because he wasn't pulling plays out of his ass in pre season and we weren't trading him for a day one pick by year 3. Turns out he had value they simply couldn't comprehend...disciplined execution and total grasp of the offense even in the face of intense armchair criticism.

Being a viable cost effective backup has a tremendous value (at least to BB if not those fans who can't grasp what they haven't personally read about or witnessed).

Re: OT: Will you trade kevin if josh calls

Anyone who thinks McDaniel's would trade a first day pick for a QB whose only experience is as a third stringer to come in and be his starter from day one is crazy.

Well that's essentially what he's going to get by USING the very same first-day pick, isn't it? He would be getting someone with more professional experience than whoever he ends up drafting would have.

There are a lot of reasons not to trade draft picks, but 'because the guy is too young and inexperienced" isn't one of them.

Re: OT: Will you trade kevin if josh calls

keep KOC and let mcdaniels suffer!!

Re: OT: Will you trade kevin if josh calls

How many here will trade kevin the backup qb and for what price.

If Josh is forced to deal cutler i see kevin being the QB who he spend time in cali before the 08 draft and had a hand in drafting[Josh was the QB coach too].
Also, as the no2 guy Josh worked with him over last year and honestly the only qb he can get who he has worked with in the past and in this case had a hand in drafting.

so will you trade kevin for a 3rd in 2010 or conditional second.

do you think this will happen ? or i am too off the base .

I'd trade him straight up for Cutler then make the whiny baby sit on the bench as Brady's backup. Wait a minute, were you serious? LOL.

Re: OT: Will you trade kevin if josh calls

I think the initial question was an interesting one. Josh McDaniels might covet O'Connell as his QB of the future if Cutler is traded. He personally worked out Kevin before the '08 draft and gave him the seal of approval as a 3rd round choice.

The compensation would have to be higher than a 3rd and higher than a 2010 2nd for the Patriots to even consider making such a deal. I think the compensation the Patriots would require to move O'Connell right now would be either a first rounder or a 2nd and 3rd. I don't think any team would be willing to give up that kind of compensation for a QB who hasn't started a game. If there was a team who would do it, it would be Denver with McDaniels who has the most knowledge of O'Connell's ability. As with most developmental players, I think O'Connell's value to the Patriots is much higher than it is to the rest of the league.

Re: OT: Will you trade kevin if josh calls

brady ihas another 5 yrs so kevin will be 28-29 btw the time he starts and on his second contract. it makes no sense the patriots will sign him long term at year 4 for big money.
Why would they sign him to a long-term contract for big moey. KOC isn't Brady's replacement. He is Brady's BACKUP.

KOC is the backup QB. His job is to backup Brady in case something happens to Brady. It doesn't matter what he will be worth in three years. If you start with the premise that KOC is Brady's backup, you will see that trading him is a bad idea. Then you have no backup. As far as a veteran goes, if BB wanted a veteran, he would have signed one of the many rather than use a high third of a QB.

BB wants to have someone to step in if Brady gets hurt. First it was Cassel. THen KOC was drafted on Cassel's last year to replace Cassel. When we hit KOC's last year BB will draft KOC's replacement.

While I agree with your conclusion that we won't get it, with Josh Freeman looking like a mid to late #1 this year, I would take the QB with a year under his belt in a great organization with skills as good as Freeman's over the boom or bust Freeman.

Re: OT: Will you trade kevin if josh calls

Since Cassie is now history, the Pats NEED a backup QB they can trust.

Dude...

1) Kevin was drafted towards of end of 3rd

2) This question is more based on if Josh is forced to draft will be prefer someone who he worked before 08 draft and put his seal of approval.

3) Josh having worked with him as cassell backup both as a OC and QB coach will he feel confident then a random a QB from the draft .

4) If josh wants him then we can set the value so this more aimed at if josh will be intrested.

Give it up. It's beyond ridiculous.

No. No, no. No, no, no, and no. Not at all.

I think Belichick made it pretty clear that as close as he is with a guy like Scott (or in this case McDaniels), he's out only to help the Patriots and the Patriots only.

No favors for anyone.

That being said, the only way the Patriots would trade O'Connell is if it was an out-of-this-world kind of offer. As in a first round pick.

Because at this point, the Patriots have already invested a 3rd round pick and a year of development on O'Connell. If the Patriots traded him they would have to find a new young quarterback to develop, which would be a waste of another early-ish draft pick, and the Patriots have a guy that they really already like so the prospect would have to be right guy as well.

Again, no favors for anyone, not even Josh.

No.

Brady is 32. O'Connell is his most likely replacement, ATM, if Brady can't make it to 36. Based on Brady's last two games I wonder if he can make it to 34. His O-line MUST do a better job protecting him!!!

O'Connell, like Cassel is a good athlete. Unlike Cassel, Kevin had plenty of starting experience while playing behind a poor O-line.
