Just figured I would ask.

What if he was on the sauce ... knew he was on the sauce and was not one of the 8 supplement people. What if he stonewalls this entire thing and it turns out he's as much a fraud as A-Rod.

Would they dump him now?

Would they dump him in the offseason?

Before you jump all over me for asking ... I'll say why I am asking. Todays mini presser by Ortiz ... he basically said nothing. Which leads me to believe he either ...

Wow ... VMart just hit a long, long HR ... this guy is the real deal.

Okay ... back on point ... which leads me to believe either he was forced to say nothing today or the Red Sox said it for him. No way John Henry and the Sox put up with this. Francona will play the good ally but the Sox have too much invested in image. Which oh BTW Victor Martinez is a great image isn't he?

I think the Sox knew this was coming down before it hit the news. I think this trade was based on Ortiz getting exposed ... John Henry has too many friends in baseball to not have been tipped off.

Okay ... I babbled enouh ... if Ortiz screws this up or is a fraud is he gone?

I wouldn't mind seeing us get a little younger and more dynamic as a team in key positions. Seems we are the team full of cagey veterans who are 1 swing away from an injury.

Would rather get rid of Lowell than Ortiz in that case. Ortiz is a little better than Lowell who by no fault of his own, can't field his position anymore.

Pure speculation on my part ... but there is way more to this story. Two assistants fired for being linked to steroids. Cyr and Remy who also just happen to be former assistants to Ramirez and Ortiz. Hard to get information on Ortiz's name being on the list. There is more here - Jerry Remy supposedly very mad about all of this - at the Red Sox no less.

If this is a stupid statement then so be it ... what if it was Remy who dropped the dime on Ortiz and not some lawyer connected to the case.
Just asking ... can't say this is what happened but we also cannot say it wasn't. someone dropped the dime on Ortiz and Manny who also oh by the way got outed around the same time these 2 wanna be people got outed.

This story is just the tip of the spear. Ortiz getting canned IMO cannot be ruled out. How he deals with this and with what level of honesty will decide his future here.

Also ... Remy is supposedly cancer free but there is talk he is not coming back - rumor has it he is angry ... very angry with how his kid was treated. makes little sense what I just said above - just a gut feeling this was an inside hack job on Papi and he is more guilty than he wants anyone to know.

Why ... going right up to 2008 would 2 superstars associate themselves with 2 guys dealing in steroids ... why?

Lowell may have a bad hip, but he still runs faster to 1b than Ortiz.
Ortiz makes me sick the way he dogs it down the line when he hits a
fly ball or ground ball.

I would not say Ortiz is better than Lowell this year.

Ortiz is batting 222
Lowell is batting 298

Comparing two players using just batting average is very flawed.

I'd prefer Lowell over Ortiz, at least Lowell could give you flexibilty in the IF sparingly if needed.

True...

Lets look at all the numbers

Lowell
315 at bats
298 avg
36 runs
54 rbi's
339 obp
483 slg
822 ops

Ortiz
367 at bats
221 avg
42 runs
61 rbi's
306 obp
411 slg
718 ops

Look at all the numbers and I still feel Lowell is having a better year
than Ortiz.

I'll agree. Offensively, Lowell has been the better player. It's just that his defense has been probly been the worst in the league at 3B.

You have to remember Ortiz had the worst first 2 months you can have. If you look at his numbers since June 1, they are pretty good.

He had a hot streak in June and early July but that looks like the exception in a terrible year at this point. The last 3 weeks since the All-Star game he has been back to really struggling. .216 with 3 hrs and an OPS of 655 in the 19 games since the all star game. So far his 2nd half of the season has actually been worse than his first half was when he hit .222 with an OPS of 733.

Meh, he's 2 for his last 25 with 1 xbh. That has a lot to do with it.

Ortiz had a great June, but he is hitting 216 avg with 3 homeruns since
the allstar break.

In the past month he has looked almost as bad as he did in April & May.
