RB situation

A couple of questions.

First, anyone have any idea on the health of Fred Taylor and Sammy Morris? I know that Taylor had surgery, but wasn't supposed to miss the rest of the season. I can't seem to find any info on him at this point.

Second, Edgerrin James just got released by Seattle. Might he be a good fit here?

If the injuries to Morris and Taylor are going to be longer term do you think he might be worth a shot?

Re: Would Edgerrin James be a likely BB pickup?

I don't think he has much left, if anything. Even if Morris & Taylor are out for a long time, the running game should be fine. Maroney, Faulk, and Green-Ellis are all good backs and can get the job done. The Pats should be able to get by with just an adequate running game if Brady continues to play as well as he has recently. I don't foresee James coming to NE.

According to most people on this forum you can pick-up a decent running back with just a half-hour's scouting in the Commons after dark. No need to sign anyone until another injury comes up.

Re: Would Edgerrin James be a likely BB pickup?

Edge fits BB's mold, proven player Get him to fill a need, a team guy. As a colts fan I would hope that I never have to see Edge in the Pats gear but as an Edge fan I would love to see him back in the league.

Re: RB situation

If Taylor and Morris are expected back, which it appears they are, we have no need for Edge. If one can't make it back I wouldn't be against bringing him in for cheap.

Re: RB situation

When Morris an Taylor come back, they'll be playing with a more potent offense than the one they left. If either one gets IR'd we're going to have issues. If Edge got released by Seattle, doesn't that say something about his skills?

Re: Would Edgerrin James be a likely BB pickup?

Bill was talking this week about how long guys play and he said that it's always an individual formula based on lots of things but some guys just hit a wall at 30 and it's over. I think Edge is one of those guys, just like Dillon was. Not that they don't try to do everything to remain productive, they just can't...

Re: Would Edgerrin James be a likely BB pickup?

If there was a RB out there that fit in better than Green-Ellis, he'd be on the 53. I am one who doesn't think we need more than three active running backs. We have enough depth for a several game 2-injury contingency. That's great!

The reality is that even with another injury, we would sign another RB, but then (as now), two RB's would get most of the non-garbage time reps.

To want to sign a running back so that we have the needed four running backs misses the point of having four or five in the first place.

Yes, at least I think so. I thought James was spent in AZ, and I can't see him doing much here.

Unless BB picks him up, of course, at which time allow me to say, Brilliant! Just Brilliant!!

Edge doesn't fit BB's mold at all.

The only thing he does well at this point is pass block, and Faulk does it better than him.

Nope. Way too much tread on this tires. He runs as if he has absolutely nothing left in the tank. If BB picks him up, I'll shudder, but I'll go for it. But, as of right now, I don't see any way that we pick him up considering what we already have on the roster and who we expect to see back at the end of the season.

He fits his mold as far as an experienced player who would take less to come play for a winner and will do what is asked of him.

The Patriots already have Faulk, Morris, and Taylor fitting those roles.

No need for him. He really won't add anything to the Patriots at this point.

Re: Would Edgerrin James be a likely BB pickup?

Until one of Morris or Taylor gets IRed, nothing's going to happen. If one of them gets IRed, I still don't think Edge is a likely signing.

Take less? He already wasn't making anything in Seattle. He was a vet min cut.

Right, he will take less money, those are the guys BB generally signs. He doesn't sign the big name guy who wants a ton of money, he signs the guys who are willing to play for that vet min.

I agree that he wont now, should those injuries be more severe then he can fill that gap.

I am not saying that I would sign him if I was BB I am just saying that if he did it does make sense and fit.

he can"t take less money than he was already taking.

Wow less money then looking for the big paycheck at this point. I didn't say he would take less then he was making before. Just in general take less money, ya know sign for the vet min. He has proven that he would sign for less.
