Would a perfect regular season be more memorable than winning the Super Bowl?

If we don't win the SB, it's a wasted season. Period. Would you call SD's season last year a success? How about the Colt's in 04? The goal is the trophy. Anything short is a bust. Period.

obviously the only thing that counts is winning the sb .a perfect season would just be the cherry on top.

I completely agree a SB is more important than 16-0 and no SB. BUT...

...to say 16-0 is meaningless without a SB win is just stupid. 16-0 is a HUGE accomplishment, just not as huge as 19-0. It would forever be mentioned as the best regular season ever. Every time a team goes 8-0 to start a season and they start asking if they can go 16-0 the Patriots would be mentioned.

The Dolphins' 1972 season would still be "the best season ever", but this season would be "the best regular season ever".

It's important to celebrate your team's accomplishments, even if they aren't the ultimate. How many NFL fans would there be if you told everyone they weren't allowed to be happy unless the won the SB? 31 teams would be miserable.

That's why I think the "SB win or it's a complete failure" people are either bandwagoners or spoiled, or both. Anyone who was a Pats fan before 2001 had to take pride in their record of AFC East wins and SB appearances, even if they didn't become champions. To demand perfection now is hypocritical.

SB is more important than 16-0;but we must try to do the perfect regular season.

It may be more memorable, since a Super Bowl is won every year but 16-0 has never been done before. Of course, if they go 16-0 and lose in the playoffs, it would be memorable for all the wrong reasons.

Either way, it's not as important as winning the SB.

Nobody talks about the 72 Dolphins for being 14-0. Nobody.

It's not a perfect season without a super bowl win, and no one would revel the 07 Patriots as the 16-1, 17-1, 18-1 team while still having a 16-0 record. It would be borderline embarrassing.

Don't get me wrong - I want the Pats to win the SB, but don't you think 15 years from now most people would still be talking about a perfect 16-0 season more than they would remember who won a Super Bowl 15 years ago? A perfect 16-0 regular season is much more rare than winning a Super Bowl and may be more memorable long term. But lets still do both

Absurd. Quite possibly the dumbest question I have ever seen. Are you kidding me???????????????????? A 16-0 regular season, REPEAT AFTER ME, does not mean a THING if they lose in the playoffs. In fact, EVERYONE will be laughing at us if we went 16-0 and lost in the playoffs. 16-0 is MEANINGLESS. 19-0 or a super bowl is all that matters. When are people going to wake up and realize this?????

You sir, are 100% correct.

Superbowl isn't just something - it everything you play the game for. An undefeated regular season, without winning the Superbowl will be an embarrassment.

If the unthinkable happens, every single freaking time people would bring up the 16-0, the next thing out of their mouth's would be yup, and they went on and lost the Superbowl.

I realize the arguement can be made that take that 16-0 and mix in 3 superbowls in 7 seasons, would be impressive - not me, I want no part of it.

All of that being said, it doesn't matter, because.....

We are going 19-0!!!!

I want the SB win. A perfect season would be the iceing on the cake for me. :rocker:

16-0 and losing in the SB would be WORSE than going 11-5 and losing in the SB.

I like your response. I would add that the OP should probably be beaten for asking such a stupid question. I think so anyway.

For most NFL teams, just getting into the playoffs is an accomplishment. We aren't those teams. We are a team that has won 3 SB in the last 6 years and now has one of the best teams ever. We are EXPECTED to win the SB. When we are clear favorites, then losing the SB is a bust. In 2001, we were big underdogs who "shocked" the world by getting to and winning the SB. Now we are in the opposite position.

All of the great teams that got beat in the playoffs were called busts. Every last one of them.

At this point a whole day without another 'Which would you prefer undefeated regular season or SB win' thread would be more memorable than anything.

Go take a long walk off a short pier.

As someone else said, the SB is all that matters. Everything else is just icing on the cake.

No...... We would be known as the biggest chokers in while. Who wants that. I would rather lose in the regular season and win the superbowl, then go 16-0 then lose in the SB or Playoffs.

I'd much rather have this team go 9-7 and get the wild card and win the Super Bowl then go 16-0 and lose in the playoffs. No question.

I keep hearing this A vs. B debate, as if "history" is 16-0 and "victory" is a Superbowl, and never the twain shall meet. But I see them as two parts of a single whole. The point of 16-0 is that it gives you the chance at the ultimate prize in both history AND victory, which is 19-0: pure perfection, marking you down as the best of all time.

Sure, the Lombardi trumps all regular season accomplishments. But 16-0 matters because 19-0 matters.
