I think your misunderstanding the point... Its the combo of Eason and Grogan should not be lumped to gether... Grogan should not be mentioned, because he was in a no win situation.. Eason , of course lump him in there, he was scared... Grogan is a warrior, and did all he could, its a shame Ray Berry did not realize what it took to play the QB position..

True Grogan was a legendary Patriots QB and should be concidered that by all but he was the backup QB in that game and he is expected to perform to what is expected from him, unfortunately it was against the best NFL defense ever I have ever seen in the 1985 Bears and he got mauled.

Unfortunately His numbers were not good and all we had was 3 points,If you can't generate points in the biggest game of the year you still remain as a failed QB situation combo,Substitute or not, thats what you get paid for,to produce when others are injured.

In todays world,BB Expects players to come in and contribute and play just as well as who was out,why would there have been an exception back then?-even if Grogan was a bit old at that time.

Still Grogan is one of the most Popular NE Patriots ever...and he deserves to be.

If Cassel was suddenly put into the Super Bowl with a Brady injury and he did not play well,it would probably look like Brady/Cassel combo on a poll like this as well.

Grogan , in fact threw the only td against the Bears in that postseason... Sorry I agree with Eason, but Grogan threw the only td in the super bowl, Grogan came into the game down23-3 against what is arguably the best defesne of all time..

Lets go over those numbers again for those that honestly want to debate the point:

Att: 6
Comp: ZERO

I don't care to bash Eason, his performace was bad enough. But, he had two passes on the Pats very first possession which were perfectly thrown. One, as we all recall, to Lin Dawson, who by some freak of nature (artificial turf really) blew out his knee the instant before the ball arrived in his hands. The second, was a certain TD throw to Morgan in the endzone that was defensed miraculously by Mike Singletary.

For what little time he played, he played poorly. In terms of poorest performance, Eason has to be mentioned - but there were so many more factors that went into the Patriots loss in XX. Just like there were many more than Grossman's play that went into the Bears defeat on Sunday.

Throwing the QB of a losing team under a bus is easy.

I still think that Roethlisberger was perhaps one of the worst performers in a Super Bowl.

That's true,and even more interesting-they won.

I don't think saying the 85 Bears were the Best Defense ever is even arguable..For those of us who were around watching them in 1985 they had NO weak player on that D,It was awesome...How Miami was able to beat them still astounds me,Miami was not really that good that year but pulled it off on a monday night, must have been playing for dear life to protect their 72 dolphins unblemished record.

As far as Ive been following football and have been watching it.. that 85 Bears team was the best ive seen..

How can we Patriot fans forget the immortal Donovan McNabb? Of course Andy Reid only had 8 years to install a 2 minute drill, but he could never find the time!

Agreed, and they had McMahon. Even though they didn't sustain a long dynastic run that team, that year, was close to perfect. 85 Bears are a legend.

The only reason David Woodley doesn't have the worst stat line in Super Bowl history is because Jimmy Cefalo was a magician that season, averaging something over 20 yards a catch. Take away that freak pass Cefalo took to the house and this is what David Woodley's incompetence looks like:

3/13 21 yds 0 td 1 int

Miami elected to run the ball nearly twice as much as they passed against a very stiff Washington run defense, rather than allow Woodley to clown around any more in the pocket.

You look at Kerry Collins, who had to throw 39 times against a ridiculous Baltimore D... yeah, of course he's going to throw incompletions and picks. Tony Eason? Didn't play long enough to be the worst. Woodley was incompetent, erradic, lost: he looked better on the run than setting up for a pass. Only sacked once. How many times did the Bears sack NE? 7 times. Collins was sacked 4 times. Don't get me wrong, that Redskins defense was nasty, but when people talk great defenses, they talk about Bears '85 and Ravens '00. Never has a QB done less with more for so long in a Super Bowl game as Woodley.

Where is Rex Grossman?? He is the worse of all time.

Were is Miami's Garo Yeprenian, for those who know. Rich Gannon wasn't all that impressive with his 5 int's.

Dilfer , Humphries and Chandler , should be replaced by.. Bledsoe, Kelly, and Gannon... and why not add Ben Rothlisburgher on there

Last I heard, Garo had gone back to making ties.

I thought of a different twist on this kind of poll, that is, worst performance by a QB who was highly regarded going into the super bowl. Gannon probably wins that one hands down.

I'm kind of puzzled as to why Rex grossman and Ben "dover" Rottenburger were not included further up there on your list......I think the two of them are neck and neck for this title......needed these two schlubs included if I was going to vote.....

I was just coming on to post the same thing. His 22.6 passer rating was certainly worse than Rex's was yesterday.

Agree with this however, the fact that he did "run one in" (although on replay he didn't get in).....and his team ended up winning the championship......I'd say he gets a slightly higher mark than Rex....who looked like a deer in the headlights last night by the way.....one man's opinion

as Pats Fans Tony Eason and Steve Grogan 'combination' should not be mentioned

Can't help it. On a lighter note that was one helluva a Bear's team.
Honestly though,How did Rothlesberger not make this list? He had a 23 qb rating or something similar to it?

Where's grossman?

I voted Kerry Collins

Ben Roethlingsburger.

Yeah you need to separate Eason & Grogan.

Its probably still Woodley though, he was atrocious. Eason is a close second.

I'm too young to chime in on the old guys but I'll vote Ben R-whatever for recent QBs. He was awful. Grossman is neck-and-neck though due to the turnovers.
