He fancies himself a cap expert but can't grasp a very simple statement. No point going any further, it's not going to go anywhere. I just posted this and he's in denial.

Okay... let try this again.New England gave Brady a $20.25 million bonus in 2019, and the void years allowed the cap hits to be spread out. In 2019, that bonus cost $5.5 million in cap dollars. Then, in 2020 and 2021, it would cost the Patriots $6.75 million each year unless he didn’t extend his contract before the start of the 2020 league year. If he decided to sign elsewhere, re-sign after the league year began, or quit the sport altogether, the $6.75 million cap hit from 2021 would accelerate to 2020.
So basically if he was here in 2020 that $13.75 mill would be half. Which is what I have said over and over.
For the record, by the time I poked my head into the tread it was already Bill vs Tom. Honestly I still haven't read the first 10 pages. Are we really turning this post into another Bill vs Tom thread?
Way to nose dive out of the discussion. Next time just say 'I quit' or 'you win.'You hate shelter puppies, poor children and the elderly... I mean, since we're just making stuff up at this point.
No thank you. You want to gloss over Belichick's blatant missteps that hastened the demise of the dynasty then that's your choice. If the cap is "strapped" then shame on Bill because the talent has been on the decline for awhile now.I hate that this forum (and maybe it's my own fault) has made me resent Brady the way some people just absolutely need to shred BB and the Pats for letting him go.
It was the end of the run. He can't stay here another 5-6 years waiting for a rebuild. We had one single bad year so far in a cap strapped and COVID-impacted season. Get over it already
I thought you said Belichick could have franchised Brady if he wanted to? You're allover the place, man. Take a nap and try again later. The amount of cap space New England had available when Tom was looking for a new deal = 1 million dollars
Go back and read the thread over again, repeating myself to another cheerleader is exhausting. For the record, by the time I poked my head into the tread it was already Bill vs Tom. Honestly I still haven't read the first 10 pages.
The discussion won't die until after Tampa Bay loses their next game. For the bb groupies they can only hope they don't have to wait until next season.

The run ended, i.e. Brady's gone, because bb miscalculated Brady's window (by several years) and treated him like a has-been. Brady knew firsthand what bb had done with the roster and how fed up he was with getting the shaft. Brady's properly respected in Tampa Bay where they're allowing him sway with personnel, coaching and play-calling. About time.
COVID impacted all 32 teams to one degree or another. Blame bb for the league high opt-outs; apparently he had the lowest player buy-in to his program. Amendola took shots at bb on the way out. Gronk obviously had had enough of bb. Brady (by himself or through Arians) has made his feeling known about bb. The reputation of player buy-in is amiss.
And the team is in a state of rebuild mainly because bb has whiffed on so many drafts and he had the balls to go into a season with no viable option at quarterback. He can start there, and hopefully get the team trending more favorably, but he's dug a rather large hole to climb out of and now Buffalo is shoveling dirt on top.

BB pushed Brady out the door. He was tired of sharing credit with the "GOAT" of QBs. Basically he didn't believe in Tom anymore and refused to offer him 2 years. Hindsight being 20/20 It's obvious that Brady was not washed up. He just couldn't carry an offense with ZERO talent around him anymore. He needed help and got none!
BB did the same thing to Gronk a couple years earlier, basically forcing him into retirement. BB also tightened things up and kept Brady's personal trainer off the Patriots grounds for quite a while. Don't kid yourself. Anything that happens in that building in Foxboro is under BB's control.
And when Kraft was asked by Brady to support him, cowardly Kraft of course stuck with BB's decision. I'm guessing his rationale was that players don't play forever but the Head Coach can be there a LONG time. The Patriots moved on from Brady and BB was the driving force behind that decision. Was 50m over 2 years too much for a franchise caliber QB? That salary of 25M is only tied for 15th in the NFL!!
You're wrong buddy. We were talking about this early last offseason. If Brady didn't extend by a certain date, the Pats got hit with a $6.75M in dead money, even he re-signed.
How Tom Brady's departure impacted the Patriots salary cap
When Tom Brady decided that the next phase of his career would take place in Tampa Bay, the New England Patriots lost a lot. They lost their quarterback. They lost their leader. And, they also lost millions of dollars in cap space. Last August, Brady signed an extension…patriotswire.usatoday.com
Lol!That was his point.
I know what you said, I don't have to reread anything. You're turning a blind eye to what I actually stated as the missteps because you can't provide a reasoned rebuttal. Your flimsy evidence consists of comparing the 7-9 2019 Bucs to the 1989 San Francisco 49ers and quoting a puff piece interview Charlie Weis did with Belichick over several martinis.Go back and read the thread over again, repeating myself to another cheerleader is exhausting.
3 rings/4 appearances = blatant missteps
Maybe you could explain to the unenlightened how BB could have used every resource to play in 4 Super Bowls and win 3, while also stock piling young talent with a 53 man roster...?I know what you said, I don't have to reread anything. So then what would you call the $6 million if Brady was here? Are you just arguing semantics now Matt?
Just the fact that he and Gisele built a mansion here at any time proves that he wanted to stay here. Weren't his kids being raised here?He built the Brookline house in freaking 2015. The first of the bumps between BB and Brady were 2017. Two years later, the relationship went sour. You make it sound like he built the house last year. The house is 5 years old.
They're billionaires dude, they own houses all over the world.Just the fact that he and Gisele built a mansion here at any time proves that he wanted to stay here. Weren't his kids being raised here?
Couldn't agree more. I love Tom like the brother I never had.I like Brady and was rooting for him to put up video game numbers this year and maybe win a ring. But the Brady-only fans with a weird agenda to somehow ultimately make Belichick look bad, makes it less fun to fully root for Brady if idiots are going to make this some sort of stupid binary competition.
