Here's the player: Julian Peterson

He's bound for Detroit after they gave up DT Cory Redding and a fifth-rounder.

Pretty easy pickings for a former All Pro who is very versatile in rushing the QB and going out in coverage. I don't know who we could have given them on defense, but we certainly had, and have, the draft choices for such a player.

Count me as disappointed. A missed opportunity.

I'm not sure if the pickings were so easy. Seattle wanted a player in return, preferably a defensive lineman. Think Green or Wright would have been enough?

Two other things to consider:

Does he fit the system?

Salary cap implications?

You are assuming that the Patriots even had a chance to make an offer on Peterson. There is a good possibility that Peterson was offered to Detroit first and that they never had a chance to get in on the bidding...

In BB we trust. In a rare interview as to why the Patriots didn't sign Peterson, BB stated,
" ". Enough said.

Peterson looks to be a bad fit for the Pats' 3-4. He is a bit too small for the Pats' system at 240lbs. Colvin was on the small size for the position and he had 10 lbs on him. Add his salary, and it was too much for the Pats to take a shot on.

Peterson is one of those guys who are ESPN faves, lots more hype than substance.

Just an offshoot of the "PLAYER X is available should the Pats go after him?"..this one is "Why didn't the Pats go after PLAYER X"....There could be a whole forum on threads like this.

Hey, what are you talking about? It got a guy elected President.
