What is the draft impact of the Bodden signing?

This is a new decision making team-but have the same blueprint. Floyd Reese was very good at selecting mid-late round players over the Tennessee years. He is consulting with Casario and Kidd. Of course make no mistake on who holds final say this year. It is hard to gauge the rd 1 direction. Because I still think that Peppers or Taylor will be added closer to the draft. This will give Patriots Value chart more flexibility. ILB-S-WR still need some challengers. A guy like Alex Mack - c-Cal-, or Evander Hood-dt-Missouri, or Harvin- Florida would become more interseting at 23. As good as Pioli was with Pat's- he missed on many picks the last 5 years. I realize the Pat's were already an elite team each year-so maybe he took to many fliers on guesswork in mid rounds-or personal likes. I believe this a an area that Floyd Reese will upgrade the Pat's quality of depth with real challengers through 7 rd's. It seems that in most recent years Pioli went into the draft looking for 1 player-maybe 2- out of 7 to make the team. I want to see 7 picks going after jobs. Building elite depth again. Not bashing Pioli-He did some great things-but everyone can improve.

Why are you putting those drafts on Pioli and not Belichick?

I am new to the board-can't start a thread yet. I have a question about Maroney? Do you believe that Maroney will be a release to get more cap space? With Taylor added- Faulk sill productive-Green-Ellis developing-and Morris staying healthy-Where does that leave Maroney? I see that the Pat's are working out some rb's- eg-Rashad Jennings-Liberty.

Highly doubt it. I believe his cap hit would actually be more if we cut him.

That said I LOVE Jennings as an option in the 3rd round.

Good point- it may be a fundamental flaw in the draft strategy starting with coach. Sometimes being to stubborn trying to reach for role players that he personally favors. I believe this is one area that Reese can help him with since they have a work history together.

The only RB I'm really interested in possibly drafting is Andre Brown in about the 5th or so. He seems to add something unique to the RB corps. That being said, it's not a need, and there will be other values to be had.

??? If Maroney is released, his 2009 cap hit will be greater than if he is cut.

His salary is rookie minimum and the remainder of his signing bonus will come due this year if he is cut.

.

I'd like to see us come out of day 1 with one safety and 3 out of the following 4 positions: OT, WR, OLB, SILB. So right now I see the draft going:

23 - BVA, likely OT (Beatty), WR (Nicks), or OLB (Barwin). Possibly Maualuga at SILB if he slips.

34 - Ideally one of the players at 23 who slipped, possibly with a trade up using #89 to get to 26 to secure them. Barwin is the most likely possibility here.

47 - Probably an SILB candidate like Robert Ayers, Larry English or Clint Sintim.

58 - Best S available. Delmas would be ideal, but Sean Smith, William Moore and Patrick Chung are solid options.

Mayo, still lovin; your work. Always seem to agree with you on your draft picks

Id agree that now we have CB locked down the priority would be LB and S. If we could come away with say Beatty, Barwin, Delmas/Chung and a WR id be delighted but im 80% convinced we move around and likely move one of those picks to 2010
