We begin with one of the NFL’s oldest (and most forgotten) rivalries. This game will likely suck but some cool history between the clubs.
1937 - Redskins beat Bears in championship game in one of the first modern passing showcases in league history. Sammy Baugh (rookie) throws for over 300 yards and 3 TDs. Can find highlights on Youtube. The Bears had been a top team in the 30s with a QB by committee. Soon after, they draft Sid Luckman.
1940 - Bears avenge loss with 73-0 shellacking of Redskins in 1940 championship. This still stands as an NFL record.
1942 - Bears field arguably (along with 07 Patriots) the most dominant NFL team of all-time and head towards 3 peat. But despite their talent and undefeated record, the Redskins knock them off 14-6 in 1942 championship.
1943 - Bears avenge previous loss with 41-21 championship game win over Redskins in 1943. Both franchises begin to fall from the elite after this season as Baugh and Luckman start to lose their fastballs. Bears would win one more in 1946 with Luckman.
After 41 years, both teams became powerhouses in the 1980s. Bears beat the (2X defending NFC champ) Redskins in 1984, with the Redskins avenging with playoff wins in (vs defending SB champion) 1986 and 1987.
