Can Henderson learn to block this fast?
I think we see why the Pats usually give their rookie running backs a season to learn. I sure hope they figure out how to keep him on the field. He has speed. Something this team has lacked for a while now.
He was such a good blocking back coming out, like one of if not the best in years. I think he just had a bad game. It happens, he’ll be better.

We don’t know that.
I’m a Chism fan, but he hasn’t even played a regular season snap. You can’t count preseason snaps against vanilla defenses and 2nd and 3rd stringers and say he can do the job correctly more often.
You are right but Chism's college career and the pre-season give an indication. So we do not know for sure like you note, but there are strong indications. A lot of us, following Pop's unwhelming performance in the first two games, would not mind seeing if Chism knows how to be in the right place at the right time.

Oh I agree, I want to see the kid on the field. I’ve been one of his biggest supporters and still am. I also think Pop will better.
Remember we had fans on here calling Campbell an OG before he played a regular season snap.
We had fans writing Maye off after week one in a new system.
….etc
So while I firmly believe Chism is going to be a good NFL player, I’m not ready to write Pop off yet.

@One-If-By-Sea @DoubleDeluxe been thinking about this Player for a while now: straight X-WR. Christian Watson I know he's kind of a mash unit: I think the Packers are moving on after this Season. I think he would be awfully Tempting in FA26 he's still young. Packers took him at the Top of the Second; the year we Reached for Boney Thornton.

Needs to come back and produce following his second knee surgery of his 3 year NFL career

His extension takes him thru 2026 I believe. Showed a lot of promise the second half of his rookie season, but has been made of glass since.
Good player when healthy, but he’s just too unreliable.

This is Pop's 3rd year. NFL guys that don't get it rarely take longer than 3 years - it happens like Troy Brown - but it is rare.

You are right that he has been a mash unit. After so many injuries is he the same player? Clearly diminshed to some degree.

If he's going to bloom McD will have to reduce what is asked of him. Remove the need for him to exercise judgement on his routes. He seems like one of these guys who's physical gifts will show if he can get the ball but if you ask him to think his way to where the ball's going to be he'll never get it. He's more of a Galloway/Ocho sort. Just tell him "Pop, this is your route. Don't think, go."

I would not say "they didn't get it" but BOTH Troy & The Squirrel took > 3 years to become what we revere

Efton Chism X WR with his poor straight line speed?? I don't know.
FWIW I think Chism is faster then 4.71 40 time.

That’s just not the job of the slot receiver in Josh’s offense. Josh has shown (with Mac) he can tailor his approach to QBs to some extent. Don’t know he’s shown that with recievers. Ton of guys who did well elsewhere washed out in his offenses

Agree. That's why I'm ready to try Chism. He seems from what little we've seen to "get it".

Which makes him even more interesting to me. Assuming they move on, Watson become a perfect "prove it" deal kind of guy in next year's FA. The guy where legitimate injury issues lowers the guarantees or yearly APR at least for the first couple of years. It makes him a better deal in the end.

BTW- I don't wat to add a bunch of WR's next year. Just some size at X and to get younger. I'd be wanting to get past Diggs and Hollis after 26. Let's see how Williams continues to develop or are we now going to dismiss him too, because he hasn't had a 100 yd game yet. I mean it's not like we've just played one. He's HAD 2 chances and came up empty. Clearly it must be Chism time (Oh God, I just spit up in my mouth)

I agree with you that’s what ‘should’ happen. I think what we’re seeing is the effects of a new coaching staff, a ton of free agents essentially two rookie classes and a DC who’s sick.

There’s less coaching than there should be to go around. Staff will favor veterans, particularly those who understand the system until there’s time to get the other guys up to speed. So the new guys (Williams, Chism) sit for now

Edelman was great in the first couple of years. Troy and Julian had to adjust to Tom's system which takes longer.

Watson's catch percentage is bad. The past 2 years it's 54%. He's basically catching only half the balls thrown to him.

Could it be QB related? The 3 other's with the highest yards for the season last year had a good to very good catch percentage.

Maye is not running a complex offense, it is more a West Coast in my estimation. Troy and Julian were fitting into TB12's offense which was far more complex, and takes longer to learn, than what Maye is running today (McDaniels game plan).

Julian talks commonly about Tom drilling him in practice so they both understood the adjustments in different situations. Maye is like TB12 in 2002, so Maye is not running a complex offense yet.
