Look closely at what he did in the games and what BJGE did- other than the Titans game Cloud isn't as impressive in the stats especially when you consider that BJGE was a rookie thrown to the wolves while Cloud was a four year veteran and former starter.

OK, I've looked closely. What am I missing?

We're talking about performance. Rookie or Vet has nothing to do with it. Both of these guys were activated due to injuries, played well in spurts, scored some TDs, each had one very good game, and both were then deactivated.

I'm trying to figure out how that makes BJGE much better than Cloud.

He ran well against a Denver team that you and I could have run against while under anesthesia for an operation, ran very mediocre in the Colts game and did have a good game against Buffalo.

Really, that's it. He totaled 11 carries in games 11-13 and then didn't have any for the rest of the season.

I'd say the number of carries in the Denver/Colts/Buffalo games separates him from Cloud, and he did have more games that I'd rate as 'mediocre' to 'good', but it's not as if that's really anything special as a comparison anyway.

OK, that's fair. I just do not understand the love for BJGE. I root for him as an underdog and he's a fine 4th stringer, but the guy has to be the most overrated Pat since Idon'tknowwho. He's like the bizarro Benjamin Watson.

It wan't one good game like Cloud had for BJGE- it was three good games. 65 yards against Denver, 57 yards against Indianapolis, 105 yards against Buffalo.

He dove into the line at a time when people were pissed off at Maroney for waiting on holes that didn't open. He was a beneficiary of unrealistic, and often ignorant, evaluations of LoMo. Morris has been given much the same sort of hype/counter-hype adulation, but he's at least been a legitimate contributor over a significant period of time.

Really, that's all it is.

He was a morale booster at the right time. He was an UDFA who contributed when they needed someone to step up at running back. Fans love those kind of stories and root for guys like that.

I'm one of those fans too . I'm also one of those fans that loved "local guy" Cloud coming to the Pats and doing well for a few shining moments. But I'm also realistic about these guys and what they brought to the team, which is more or less equivalent IMO.

That's all. I'm not trying to disparage BJGE and me comparing him to Cloud is a compliment of sorts.

Neither one of them can hold a candle to the contributions that PPass has made, of course.

Pass was Then; The Firm is Now, baby!

The return of Patrick Pass

Oops. I see I'm way behind. Merge-bait. Sorry!

According to an AP article that I won't link to because I saw it in the Herald, Patrick Pass has signed with the Patriots. Apparently, he was out of football for two years dealing with "personal issues." These were somehow connected to him gaining weight. Of course, he's lost the weight, is slim and trim, still remembers the offense, etc., etc. At least, that's his story.

That he was resigned so quickly only proves he's good enough in BB's reliable judgment to be camp fodder. With the shortage of FBs, hiring him on that basis was a no-brainer even if that's all he's good for. Hence, his signing isn't much evidence one way or the other of BB's opinion of Pass' chances of actually making the team.
