i agree with Tedy Bruschi: the loss of Ty Warren is really huge...

very very bad...

now Gerard Warren, Wilfork and Wright will be the 3 starters in the 3-4 i guess

stop the run will become more difficult imho

Well hopefully the team is scouring the league to bring in a capable body. Damione Lewis didn't really impress me in his run-stuffing abilities Thursday night.

One thing that everyone is missing:

Everyone that is fretting over Warren's loss is afraid of missing his 05-06 production. We all know he has been limited by nagging injuries recently, thus his production dropout. So really, his backup will be replacing his 09 production, which seems to be a lot easier to replace. As opposed to his top tier play, which has been in remission since a few years ago. Basically, the dropout should not be quite so severe.

Sure, but many were expecting him to be healthy and back to form. Actually it hasnt been 3 years since he was. He played very well in 07-08 too,

The Pats were clearly not flawless from 2001-2005. The Pats went 9-7 in 2002. The biggest free agent acquisition during this time period was Donald Hayes who might be the worst free agent acquisition of the Belichick era (worse than Adalius Thomas who at least played well in 2007). The Pats had more hits than misses, but there were still misses in drafting and free agency.

Also, the Pats were clearly not as bad as you make them from 2006-2010. You do realize the Pats have been to two AFC Championships and one Super Bowl between 2006 and 2009. I know we have become a spoiled fan base where anything short of a Super Bowl win is complete disaster, but the Pats haven't become the Raiders or the Lions.

+1

The Pats always did and always will have misses and hits, like all teams. It is a numbers game. The pats changed the typical camp formula in 2001 by bringing in a higher level of quality into training camp while other teams would simply bring in 'camp fodder' back in the day. This has changed, and the rest of the league is thinking more about following the Pats formula and taking their depth very seriously. So even less quality is available on the open market.

Every training camp we have a bunch of players that look better on paper than they do on the field and most of the Chris Hayes's and Tuitelle's get cut in camp while others like the Victor Greens and Duane Starks play themselves out of a position of need during the season.

People that think we used to hit on more (or less) of our signings and trades and picks are completely wrong. It has always been a sheer numbers game. BB understands that you need to overturn many stones to find a gem underneath and that has always been the approach.

The whole point of camp competition and 'anybody can make the team regardless of draft status' is because it has never been anything more than a glorified numbers game.

Please review the 2001 list of free agents. They were critical in winning in 2001.
