A couple of thoughts:

- We're only seeing what the camera is allowing us to see, but it appears that Nick Caserio is in charge of the trade, not Bill Belichick. Obviously that's not the case, but BB seems to have complete confidence in Caserio handling the situation and his decision making.

- 'Bill's on the phone with another team right now'

- No pressure, no stress; the scene was extremely calm

I've read a lot of your posts over the years. I know you're a smart person. You're right about the calm in the room and the misdirection (he's "on the phone"), but you're wrong about the roles.

I've never been in an NFL Draft Room, but I've been in the room when some high value deals were done. the guy on the phone is the messenger, unless there is a principal on the other end of the line. in this case, I'd bet the mortgage that Caserio was talking to his counterpart on the other side, not to the counterparts of Belichick or Kraft.

the clip starts after the decision is made. Belichick and the Krafts are clearly the principals here and Caserio is the errand person (that doesn't mean he isn't a highly paid and well-respected errand person...but he is still the errand person...the guy on the phone might be making seven figures plus, but he's still working for someone else).

So who is this "George" Caserio has talked to about 229? What am I missing?

There were two people in New York that work in the video department that were designated as messengers (to bring the pick, or in this case trade) up to the podium. I assume that one of them is named George.

Also, to PFS74 - thanks for calling me smart! I should have worded my comment better, with more emphasis on 'appears', followed by 'but obviously that is not the case'. Sometimes typed words don't come out as meant to be, especially when one is in a hurry - as is the case in this example. I'm in complete agreement with your assessment; you wordedi t far better than I did.

I absolutely agree with this assessment.

DeusIrae and I had a discussion on a name that was not blurred at the 0:27 mark. It says SCOTT in bold letters, either Matt Scott a 4th round developmental QB or tremayne Scott likely UDFA DE.

I thought the draft room would look more like this....

Vikings assistant GM is called George so I assume it was him. Unless he was saying it to someone who wasn't on the other end of the phone line.

but they really are so calm in such a tense situation...it's amazing

Bill nodding - Like a boss.

that's why they get the big bucks. an old saying about the "heat" and the "kitchen" comes to mind.

Geez, everybody the draft is in NY .... George Costanza of course. And Jerry is supposed to announce the pick.

Seriously, Big-T has it on the money I think. (saying George is the Minny asst GM.)

IMO Caserio is just finishing off the high stakes poker where BB raised and Minny was forced to call:

----Judging by the fact that pick #229 was NOT written on the white board yet at the start of the video but the other 3 picks were; Minny had made the offer to trade up for the other 3 picks and BB turned them down.

---- So "George" called back and threw in the 7th rounder. That is where the video picks up. Caserio says we might be able to do that but I have to wait on BB he is on phone (as a stall tactic) - in case they want to talk it over. after hanging up - He looks to BB and RK and gets head nods/hand waves to the - 'you are good with that?' - so no discussion reqd.

---- Caserio calls 'RICK" (someone from NFL I think? or another Minny guy possibly but I doubt) and tells them the deal is a go (obviously they had previously given a heads up they were in discussions) and gives them the new parameters (4 picks).

---- Caserio then says he will call "JOEL" back in a minute - I think that is definitely someone from Minny.

--- Then BB says "4 PICKS TOMORROW".

One of the interesting things to me is just the # of speed dials Caserio has to have on his phone. 31 teams plus NFL then if he needs the Draft room plus a GM direct for each team.....

The move is not turning out so good so far, all the too receivers are flying off of the shelves.

If they really wanted Woods or another WR, they would have moved up.
