assuming there's nothing else to come out about spygate, IMO the way BB rebuilds his reputation (outside of New England, where it's fine except for among certain members of the media) is (1) to win and (2) to continue to do stuff like this where he connects with people who really know something about football (way more than most of us) and gets more and more people out there defending him.

Actually, my guess is that it's just the opposite: instead of being a chance to rebuild his reputation (outwards) it's more about rebuilding his motivation (inwards).

It's a common story. You do a job you love. As you advance up the ladder there are good things (you get to do things your way) but also bad ones: you get distracted with matters of administration, personnel, external relations, etc. that cut you off from what originally engaged you. Lots of us have been there, Bill!
