Without checking Wikipedia or anything, my guess is that from 1960-69 you had the AFL East and West. Given that, it'd make sense for Houston to be in the East. Houston was never in the AFC East after the merger.

100% correct

1969. The Jets last won the SB in 1969 (1968 Season).

Whoops. I was thinking the 1969 season, with the Super Bowl being in 1970. Off by a year. But even closer to the Great Depression than today!

Honestly I never knew the Oilers were in the AFC East though!

They weren't - But they were in the AFL East with the Patriots, Jets/Titans, Dolphins and Bills

It would be more accurate to say that these stats refer to Eastern Division champions (rather than AFC East)

The end result is the same since it's been these teams near consistently

Here's one.

The Jets' last SB victory was 1970.
It is now 2015 - 45 years later.

1968

47 years ago. The game was actually January 12, 1969

Man had yet to walk on the moon

Wow, 4 division titles in 55 years. That is absolutely awful.
For history sake, go back 15 years and the Patriots were 4th with 5 titles in 40 years,,,,,,

If I were absurdly rich, I'd take out a full page ad in the major NYC newspapers every Sunday and reprint these stats.

@Haterproof :

The Oilers were in the AFL East until the merger and then the AFC Central.

Also, here were the 1969 AFL standings. Oilers in the AFL East:

And here were the 1970 standings. Oilers in the AFC Central:

You are correct, though I still think it is valid to consider it as part of AFC East history. It had the Patriots, Jets, Dolphins, and Bills. Valid or not, it is funny!

It is actually WORSE for the Jets if you are talking about the official AFC East post-merger. Two of their four division crowns were prior to that. Since the merger, they've won TWO division titles in FORTY-FIVE years. Somehow, it gets even lower. They win a division title every 22.5 years!

I gotta say, this gif Pretty much represents the history of the Jets in a nutshell.

The Pre kraft patriots were somehow worse
