Oh God, now that we're finished with the Ty Law debacle, it's time for "Have the Patriots traded for Lelie/Stallworth yet?"

Of course, we did trade for Ted Washington in training camp. And last year we traded for Andre Davis in training camp. With Branch threatening a holdout and also having been nicked up in the past, if he were gone we would we thin at WR, it's wholly reasonable that we might make a move.

With Branch's situation, it's not an impossibility. The Pats certainly wouldn't guarantee Lelie the #1 WR status, but I'm sure he's smart enough to know that the Pats prefer to operate with a "#1A" and a "#1B" WR (i.e. Lelie would get as many balls thrown his way as Branch, or anyone else, as long as he gets open and hangs onto the balls he's thrown).

While I like the drafting of Chad Jackson, Reche Caldwell is an unknown commodity and we don't know if Troy's got enough in his legs to be a prime WR again. So, even if they picked up Lelie and made Deion happy, there's plenty of room for Branch, Lelie, Jackson, and Caldwell...

can we get this **** over with

itsalready been reported STALLWORTH WILL NOT BE TRADED. why would we need him if we have Branch-Jackson ? Because Branch will leave maybe? Well Stallworth would like some big money himself. We already said we will not be acqiuring Lelie because he doesnt fito ur system.

Rumor has it that Calvin Johnson of GT will go pro after this season, he'll be a junior. He's a much better option than Stallworth or Leslie.

And since GT does not have a great QB throwing the ball, it's possible that Johnson could slip to us at #32.

Even with a poor QB, Johnson figures to be the 1st WR taken. I'd be suprised if he goes lower than #20.

1. Branch hasn't actually threatened anything, has he?. He didn't show up for mini-camp. But he did not say he wouldnt be at training camp, did he? This is all speculation on our part. We won't know until Friday if he is holding out, and not even then. He might just stay away a coupole days to show his displeasure. We would really have to wait a couple weeks to see if he intends to play this season.

2. If in a couple of weeks Branch is holding out, would BB's solution be to trade for a guy who is currently holding out on his own team? I can picture the Cardinals or Bengals doing this, but not the Patriots.

Although the increased fines may change his mind, skipping a mandatory minicamp is clearly a non spoken threat.

We need Ashley Lelie like we need a hole in the head. This guy is NOT Patriot material.

On a team that's better noted for it's running game than it's passing attack (note they're trying to fix that, too, with the drafting of Cutler to replace Plummer no later than next year), this guy, who fancies himeself #1 material and thus deems this fantasy worthy of #1 money, would be extremely hard pressed on that team staking claim to the #3 WR spot, if that.

On this Patriots' team, even with it's hanging-by-a-thread receiving corps, he'd be hard-pressed to be #4. He is simply not that good. Has only one real bullet in his gun - fly patterns. Color him a number 1 bust.

The Denver Post today had a brief article about this, stating that "7 teams" were interested in Lelie. In the next sentence it stated that the Broncos had talked to these teams, including the Patriots. Just because they "talked" is not indicative of interest.

I believe it was the Broncos who contacted the Pats with a preposterously proposed trade of Lelie for Daniel Graham and a high draft pick! New England's almost instantaneous response was a diplomatic "No, thanks!".

Shanahan would like to rob the candy store in a trade like this, if he could, but the simple fact of the matter is, there's simply not much interest around the league for this make-believe #1 wide receiver.

The only way I can see this guy coming to New England under any circumstances is a trade involving an autographed picture of Bill Belichik and a 13th round draft pick.

WR depth?

I think it is clear that the Patriots have already lined up a quality veteran shadow roster WR. The articles and interviews with Kevin Johnson make clear that he was wanted by the Patriotsand he wanted the Patriots. As a former 1000 yard a year WR, he used to be able to play as a number 1 type WR.

He is not yet healthy or he would be on the roster already. He suffered an Achilles tendon injury, from which he has ostensibly recovered.

As he says, I can play without any problem, but next day the tendon is sore. Recovery is not yet complete, but he just needs time to fully heal. Do we need the fifth WR now?

No.

Only if the WRs suffer injuries will we need to bring in a skilled WR.

And KJ is already lined up and getting ready to go. He is on the shadow Unofficial PUP. Shadow PUP has no cost, and flexibility on which date the player can join the Team.

Stranger things have happened, the Pats traded a 4th round pick for Andre Davis last year and then cut him and then signed him again. Davis knew three patterns "The fly", "The go" and "The I am going to run very fast in a straight line."

Ok, I think I am getting the hang of this forum. Let me give it a try, if Lelie is picked up by the Pats he becomes vertical threat helping to stretch the field and giving them a well rounded set of receivers. If they don't pick him up he is a selfish bum with one dimensional talent.

Stretching the field is one thing. Actually catching the ball is another. Why, he's done that so well in Denver, at such clutch times, that Shanahan is trying to move him - for anything!

We'll judge how highly the rest of the league thinks of him by the demand this proposed trade generates.

Given what's transpired in the off-season with Lelie and the Broncos, don't you think he's "a selfish bum with one dimensional talent"?

I'd love Lelie on our team. The dude has potential. He just hasn't reached it.If Lelie can help us win another Superbowl I'm all for it.

It's not a forum thing. It's a thing of trolls and people who get confused easily.

There are some of us who like Lelie, and some who don't. I don't. If he gets picked up the ones who liked him will talk about him, and trolls and dopes will say, gee, last week you thought he was a bum and now you love him because he is a patriot.

Not really. Go back and see if the guys gushing about him were trashing him earlier. You will find that the ones who liked him still like him, and the ones who didn't are willing to give BB the benefit of the doubt, but are not convinced.

We went through this with Ahmand Brooks. Most of us thought he would be a terrible Patriot. Some guys thought he would be terrific. After teh Bengals got him, those of of who didn't like him post a collective , "Whew, a bullet dodged." and some other moron (not you) said, "Gee, I guess now that he isn't a Patriot he suddenly isn't any good." No, Goober. We didn't sift sides. Some of us NEVER liked Brooks.

I think Lelie is horrible. Stretch the field? He only runs one route. Straight down the. He can't run routes, can't make cuts, is afraid of contact, is a first round bust.

If he makes the team, and I would be amazed if he BB went after him, he would have to be a totally different player for me to like him. Not likely. He would be the next David Terrell. Take a chance for cheap, and cut him because he sucks.

While I'm not a big fan of Leslie, per se, I do want to point out that the Pats do not need Leslie to stretch the field. We can do that just as effectively with Ben Watson. In the two TE offense, which I believe we are trying to implement, one of them has to get downfield.

Good point on Watson.

We had a "stretch-the-fielder" type the last few years in Bethel Johnson, and it seems like that didn't work out. (Not that I am comparing Lelie to Johnson, only commenting on the "stretch the field" factor involving these two.)

And speaking of David Terrell, last week the Denver Post did it's write-up on the upcoming training camp, and they listed Terrell ahead of Lelie!

So for the Pats, it would, seemingly, be a case of, "Been there, done that".

Let freedom reign, personally I have no desire to re-check peoples postings. They can keep or change their opinions 20 times a day for all I care.

Every opinion is taken with a grain of salt, the forum is nothing more than place for armchair quarterbacks to post meaningless analysis. I am sure we all have egg on our face "Dillion is a bad pick-up...", "Sullivan is a great addition...", "Why did they take this Seymour dude instead of a real player like Terrell?"

I will go right down the middle with this. I don't know Lelie from Adam Sandler but on paper he is at least as good as Davis (which doesn't say much). If the Pats get him and he helps great, if they pass on him, great.
