Training Camp Thread 8/13/2013

Comments from Ceese Carcieri:

- Kenbrell Thompkins playing some pre-practice catch with Tim Tebow.

- Tim Tebow begins practice with the ugliest throw I've ever seen. Honestly...

- Kids behind me: "Your grandma is better than Tim Tebow."

- Brady is messing around with Mallett during sprints. They are racing. Funny stuff.

- Finally I get to watch the defense do drills. The Pats are practicing on the front field and the Bucs on the back.

- Another ball in the dirt for Tim Tebow...

- Brandon Spikes is not working with the linebackers right now. Doesn't look like he is even on the field.

- All I have to say is where is Brandon Spikes. He's killing me... No OTAs or mini camp.

- Danny Amendola and Julian Edelman juke their defenders badly in 1v1's. Just sick.

- Aaron Dobson and Kenbrell Thompkins catching all the balls thrown to them.

- Slater and Boyce with two fantastic catches in the 1 on 1's. The Pats were picking them apart. Pats v Bucs in 1 v 1's.

- Couldn't see how are defense faired against Tampa Bay's offense in 1 v 1 but the our offense was dominant.

- Looks like Fonzie is limited again. He is walking around the field with his helmet in his hands.

- Patriots offense v Bucs defense on the front field. Pats defense v Bucs offense on the back field.

- Kenbrell Thompkins with a beautiful catch over the back of a defender. Nice throw from TB.

- Dashon Goldson has the freshest face mask in the league.

- Punt return work now.

- They are going full out contact on these punt drills. Hard hits right now.

- Dobson with a beautiful catch. Talib is amped on the sideline. Helping him up.

Brady vs. Mallett in race. I think I read a story similar to that when I was a kid. "The Tortoise and the Even Slower Tortoise".

More comments from Ceese Carcieri:

- 11 v 11 now the Bucs offense will face the Pats defense.

- All the Bucs are doing is handing the ball off to their running back Doug Martin.

- Scrimmage time. Loud music blasting in the background to simulate crowd noise.

- Aaron Dobson with a bad drop and then Brady mishandles a snap.

- (Q.: How's Doug Martin doing?) -- He looks good. Quick.

- All Tampa Bay does is run the football. When they do throw it's to Mike Williams and Vincent Jackson.

More comments from Steve Balestrieri:

- Freeman and the Bucs offense look sharp today.

More comments from Derek Havens:

- Doug Martin having a strong day today. The #Buccaneers offensive line is opening up some big holes for him.

- Brady leading #Patriots offensive vs #Buccaneers defense in 11-on-11's. "Welcome to the Jungle" blasting, as the music acts as crowd noise.

- Sloppy series for the #Patriots offense during 11-on-11's there. Not as much because of the #Buccaneers defense, but some drops and slipping.

- Jamie Collins playing (sam) OLB in #Patriots 4-3 base with Spikes absent from today's practice. Hightower moved inside to MLB.

- Both offenses are clicking well in drills today. Defenses have had their moments, but both the #Buccaneers and #Patriots have moved the ball.

- #Patriots and #Buccaneers working on last minute FGs. Gostkowski nails a 52-yarder and then a 40+

- Not much Ryan Mallett & even less Tim Tebow today. As I mentioned, mostly Brady & the starters. I expect we see more Mallett/Tebow Wednesday.

Comment from Greg Bedard:

Amazing that after last year's practices and game vs Patriots the Bucs still can't get lined up in time.

Love it.

Have you guys realized how many one handed cathes have already been made by Patriots WR's and TE's alike. It's going to be thing of beauty knowing Brady's Passes don't always have to be perfect. Defenses are going to be in for it knowing our Offense uses the entire Field and not just half of it.:scared:

It would be better if they didn't have to be one-handed.

why o why can't we have our secondary completely healthy? Every time somebody comes back someone else exits.

It's preseason. If this was the regular season, many of the guys sitting out would be practicing today. You play it safe in the preseason with injuries.

More comments from Roy Cummings:

- On the other side of the ball, Josh Freeman hits Tiquan Underwood in stride on a slant route. Freeman very sharp again today.

- The Bucs O-line is opening some big holes for RB Doug Martin, who is having a nice day against Pats defense.

- Bucs receivers not as sharp just catching the ball today. Several incompletions that should be catches. There's another in EZ from Underwood.

- Instead of white noise the Pats pump heavy metal rock and roll through the loudspeakers to simulate crowd noise in two minute drills and such.

- Freeman hits TE Tom Crabtree on an out route for a big gain in two-minute drill. Bucs offense looking sharp here.

- Peyton Hillis is back at work today and working in 11-on11 drills.

- Not a lot of work for the twos and threes today. This practice is all about getting the starters and regulars better.

- PK Derek Dimke hits the right upright on a 47-yard FG try at the end of a brief two-minute segment.

- This time Dimke makes a 37-yard FG to finish off a two-minute drill. A long pass to Vincent Jackson sets it up.

- Banks finally wins a battle, this time in the back of the en zone against Dobson. Rough day for the Bucs rookie.

More comments from Stephen Holder:

- You know how Bucs use that annoying simulated crowd noise? Patriots use heavy metal... Welcome to the Jungle.

- I really like Johnthan Banks. Seriously. But Tom Brady is putting on a clinic against him today.

- To his credit Banks finished that period really strong with pass deflection.

agree but even going back to last season. CB was a revolving door. The depth is there at safety but once again, If Dennard or Talib (who seem to always be getting nicked) go down were in a position where 1) Arrington moves outside or 2) We have to rely on Ras-I (lol).

Some more comments from Ceese Carcieri:

- Zach Sudfeld is being targeted a lot in this scrimmage.

- Vincent Jackson is going off right now. Catching everything that comes his way.

- DARRELLE REVIS SIGHTING

More from Steve Balestrieri:

- VJax going to give them fits week 3.

Earlier comments from Ben Volin, Boston Globe:

- Bucs QBs wear a green non-contact jersey. Fits in well up here in Boston.

- Dennard, Dowling, Cannon and Jenkins are all in pads today. We'll see how much they practice.

- No Brandon Spikes at practice.

- Fascinating to watch the Bucs practice. So much more going on at once than on Pats side. Lots and lots of fundamentals work.

- Schiano is taking a few minutes during individual drills to chat with Robert Kraft on the sidelines.

- One young girl in the stands keeps shouting "Tebow! Tebow!" Cute.

That's kinda a stupid comment. It could very well happen, but the Pats aren't scheming the Bucs or playing anything but vanilla. Anyone who think you are going to take anything away from this week on how the Pats and Bucs will perform against each other in the regular season is an idiot. Neither Belichick nor Schiano are going to show their hand to each other this week.

Regardless, VJax is a helluva receiver. Add in lack of pass rush and below average secondary, and Freeman and VJax may have a field day against the Pats. Not saying we won't beat them, but their offense should be able to put a decent amount of points against us, unless our secondary becomes good overnight and our D finds a pass rush over night.

More from Roy Cummings:

- Tim Tebow is now getting some work as the twos and threes get a chance to play a little.

- Anthony Gaitor with a pick of Ryan Mallett in two-on-two work. A steady light rain continues to fall here in Foxborough.

More from Ceese Carcieri:

- Tim Tebow opens up the 11 v 11 vs the Bucs with a throw in the dirt. Fantastic.

More from Derek Havens:

- Not much Ryan Mallett & even less Tim Tebow today. As I mentioned, mostly Brady & the starters. I expect we see more Mallett/Tebow Wednesday.

- Tebow on the right field running 11-on-11's vs Bucs. TB QB Glennon running offense vs Pats defense. Tebow scrambled & ran 15 yards for a TD.

- Looks like today's practice is coming to an end. Both #Patriots and #Buccaneers huddling up with respective teams. Great work together today.

- (Q.: Think Tebow will run conventional or Option offense?) -- Both. Pats mixed in some of option with their play book.

Comments from Nick Underhill, MassLive.com:

- Sudfeld had a good day. KT with a spectacular one-hand grab in 1 on 1s. Vincent Jackson beasted on everyone.

- Kind of a sloppy day here at Gillette. Brandon Spikes missing. Dennard and Dowling spectators.

The last time Vjack vs Patriots 10 for 172 I think. I really hope Chandler Jones can get some help on the other side. A Pass Rush will make Pats DB's look better.

How do you know the Patriots will lack a pass rush and have a below average secondary?
