You’re right, no team is going to stand up saying wow because of his preseason performances alone. But we already know five other teams were looking at him because of his college tape etc. Any one of them could decide that his preseason performances confirm the potential they already saw, and the upside of possibly developing the next Squirrel is worth the cost of cutting some fringe player whose bubble is about to burst anyway. So it may be more likely for him to be claimed than a more traditional WR like Polk or Baker for example.

Every argument Ring made for Jules, are the exact same criteria you can apply to Chism. The lone difference is Jules was a 7th rd pick, and Chism was a priority UDFA, so somehow that means Jules college tape...etc is more valuable than Chism's, which is not the case and a pretty weak argument. Chism also came out as an accomplished WR, Jules was an experiment without an NFL position.

I don't know his full history, but there are a high percentage of NFL players that come from less than ideal family/economic backgrounds, and don't get the ideal parenting so many people take for granted.
Again, I don't know his history, but perhaps he is in need of guidance, something Mayo and staff were most certainly ill equipped to provide.
My hope is Vrabs will help him turn the light on, and keep it on.

And it's not he's this super-duper athletic specimen either: 4.54/37.0/10'1, while ok, ain't exactly gonna make people jump outta their wheelchairs either. And he flat-out refused to lift or run the 20-shuttle & 3-cones at Both the combine And his pro day.

Well that's kinda my point. He may have been a "cement head" in college due to his lack of parenting/guidance growing up. I don't know that for sure, but many NFL players come from backgrounds where they didn't get the parenting/guidance that many of us take for granted. I'm giving him a chance under Vrabs, hope he can cease his opportunity.

When he was drafted my impression was that he had a lot of swag because that was what he thought ratified his status as elite. Probably modeled his behavior on what he saw from Neon Deion, AB, lots of other NFL guys with flash on the cameras, and had his followers and entourage feeling his ego about being special for acting that way.
And probably no strong role models exemplifying the importance of hard work and discipline. His talents are outstanding, his behavior also stands out but only because it’s designed to grab attention.
Problem is, he never saw what those role models were doing behind the scenes to reach the performance level necessary to establish and maintain a career.
Seems he may have gotten that part of it from being around a solid organization with players who have established that they know how to be pros in the NFL. It seems Diggs has become a champion for him, hopefully Baker dumps his posse of college bros and keeps toeing the line.

I can't answer that now without seeing Chism in the Preseason. Hollins brings size and physicality to the position that no one else on the roster does. I would think Hollins is more valuable now, and there isn't an NFL coach that plays for tomorrow. That said I think Chism can be a good slot in the future, would hate to lose him.

I agree, poor choice of wording. Teams always look at the future, but not at the cost of being less competitive today. Coaches/GMs are paid to produce, and that product is wins. Multi-year rebuilds are not the way fo today's NFL, teams can go from bad to competitive very quickly. So if Hollins gives them a better chance today, and today being a team that should be competitive and could compete for a wildcard spot, they aren't going to keep a player that may be a better player in 2 years, over the guy that is better today.

But again, I think Chism will be a capable NFL slot WR in time, and would hate to lose him, If we can get him on the PS and keep him, that would be great.

He has what some writers said was an overly involved Dad, kind of a LaVar Ball type. However, other writers said it was exaggerated for clickbait. The only hard evidence I can find one way or another is an interview his Dad did, where to his credit he admitted he was an overly involved and arrogant Dad on behalf of his son and tangled with Nick Saban (arguing that his son should be on the field over others) and eventually the Dad forced Baker to leave Alabama for UCF. The father regrets it now, and did the interview to warn other fathers to not get overly involved, the following is a link.

I have the same thoughts and have posted more than a few times. I think pre-season is his chance to shine and he will standout and not clear waivers if we try to sneak him thru to the PS. So...I hope he makes the team, or has a really quiet pre-season and we can sneak him thru.

It seems like F-ton reminds us of some longshot, hard working, beloved former Pats, which naturally makes us root for the guy. I think it can also blind us to his actual NFL value, especially as seen by 31 other teams.

It would be great if he can somehow sneak onto the Pats roster and earns that with some great contributions. And if it doesn't work out, it will be clear to me that the team made the right decision.

That is right, Kupp and Chism are similar but Chism is slower than Kupp. Welker's numbers were worse than Chism's.

And let's be honest, Chism if a far more accomplished WR coming out of college than Edleman was.

Welker and Kupp were not athletic studs by measurables, but both have/had very productive NFL careers, the hope is Chism can do the same, but TBD obv.
