One of the reasons that Henderson MIGHT get a bit more run that a lot of rookie RB's that Josh has had could be that he is such a good pass blocker right out of the block. That is usually one of the last skills NFL RB's develop since prime RB's rarely have to do it in college.

One of the key phrases that was heard often today when describing our receivers was "wide open". A phrase we haven't heard much the last 3 years. Sounds nice

As a passing back, James White is the gold standard and averaged about 25 snaps a game, ran the ball 2-3 times, and caught about 4 passes a game. He is the benchmark.

To your point, if TH can read Ds and know when to pick up the blitz, pass block, run his route/cut it off and be the same brain as Drake he might play more.

We assume he'll run the ball more than White but unknown if he'll be as prolific as a receiver out of the backfield.

I agree with coach that his pass blocking skills will put him at a different level than we've seen here in some time.

There is some concern he is on the smaller side but at OSU he pounded on a big, physical Penn State defense. He can dish it out.

He might not be a bellcow but 10-12 carries a game will do just fine

I think Polk and Bourne are out.

They cannot afford to give away even a decent young receiver at this point. Baker has shown enough in camp so far, so Bourne gets traded, Chism to PS and Polk is a second rounder from last year. You keep or trade.

I think they keep 7 WR's

They can bring two players up from the PS, for a JAG 3rd TE or 4th RB, or whatever they need.

Diggs/Boutee/Wiliams/Hollins/Pop are near locks. Then it's 2 of Polk/Baker and yes Chism.

What's the big deal with 7 WR's with the new rules?

Thoughts.

The Bad.

Kyle Williams was silent today. Maybe a he had a catch for all i know, but i didn't hear about it. He wasn't drafted that high to be an after thought. He needs to contribute and today was his biggest test yet, and he failed. He has been fairly silent recently as well as other posters have pointed out. Part of this is no doubt that there are a lot of mouths to feed, but if you are good enough you demand your share. He isn't demanding it consistently yet. Williams luckily will have a chance at redemption though in a few days. If he doesn't do something good in that game though i think it will be time wonder about what he will bring here. He'll surely bring something. But guys who pop big tend to show it early. If he fails to show early I will be lowering my hopes for him. Not that he can't have a good career, but maybe being a true #1 is out the window.

Center - Jared Wilson has been amazing. He's fixed one interior spot. We can be confident he is the real deal already. But which spot? Guard or Center? Probably guard as they have more options at center to rotate. But i don't like any of them. We came into camp with a scatter shot strategy. Throw a bunch of guys against the wall and hope one works out. This is usually a bad idea. And it is showing to be so. Strange? Nope. Bradbury/Brown? Meh at best. Everyone else? Do you ever need to know their names at this point? I think if they want to make a move... now is the time. They should seriously consider it.

The Good.

Campbell had his best showing yet! It wasn't perfect. And the weaker competition certainly helped. But it was an almost completely clean day. Almost (and no i am not holding that 'sack' against him either... that was not on him). From the looks of it our DL is just nasty. Washington should have an improved OL this year after they were okay last year and they tore through it all the same. So we should keep in mind the level of competition Campbell goes against every day (also this makes you appreciate Wilson more... going against Barmore/Milton all the time and looking good doing it... He may make the probowl as a rookie).

Tonga has been one of the most underrated stories in camp all year but he is starting to be noticed more. We got a steal here maybe. This will be a nasty rotation.

Pop. Someone said in this thread Pop has been the best WR in camp. And frankly they aren't wrong. This should make you nervous on the surface, but seeing how good he's been vs Washington it's hard be mad about it. Diggs will still end up with more yards as he isn't 100% yet. But it is really starting to feel like Pop as your #2 isn't a bad thing at all.

Random thoughts.

Remember the calls to maybe trade Boutte at the start of camp? Me neither. Never happened. Fake news. *removes phone from hook*

Sometimes i think we forgot how nice it is to have 2 quality starting level TEs. Neither is amazing by themselves.... but together they cause issues. I hope they find ways to put them on the field together more.

Tavai and Mapu were guys who were borderline on the roster to start camp. Would you miss either right now?

Just a bit of a background story. Starting to hear rumblings about Ponder coming on strong... Truman Jones is having a solid camp too it sounds like. Both look like they will push for a spot. Can't keep both i think. An under reported story line.

There was a lot of hopes Wallace would step up and play up to his pick. Seems like thats done now. Behind Bryant and Jacobs by the looks of it.

With every practice i'm more sure we are keeping 7 WRs. Because that 7th WR is just be a much better player with way more upside than the emergency back up you could have kept elsewhere. The way the roster works now adays the practice squad isn't much different than a roster spot outside of pay. And the fact is other guys who aren't that 7th WR are much less valuable players.

Looks like caedan Wallace, Polk, L robinson would be cuts and baker might just make it . What a waste of 24 draft capital .

We found a keeper in dj James and probably got lucky with tonga and chaisson in free agency . Farmer and swinson seem to be silent all through camp. Don't expect them to be a major contributor this season and are probably depth pieces.

25 draft class is hitting out of the park so far with wilson leading the pack followed by henderson , Campbell , the kicker and lastly Williams . It's too early but Williams has had a very low key camp over last 1 week . Let's see how it progresses . I remember meyers rookie camp performance. It was very telling. Harry was all negative . As for Williams it's just muted .

If you risk that we can get our 3rd TE to the practice squad instead of our 7th receiver you could find yourself with one healthy TE very quickly and scouring the wires for another one.

I know so far we aren't clamoring over our depth TEs but you still need depth.

And maybe they do take that risk. I wouldn't call it a big deal but it's a not ideal lol.

Edit: also our 3rd TE might need to do some FB too. And might even contribute on STs on gameday where the 7th wr would probably not even be active.

Don’t forget Woodson in this rookie class. He has been playing some with the 1s.

Ok then they save a spot with 2 QB's. There's plenty of room with the extra spots rule change.

They could have 3 JAG TE's on the practice squad who are as good as this group., that they can bring up on game day, and if one hits, then you figure it out.

Yes I forgot woodson. He is balling too ... And Bryant seems to be a decent backup though I don't fancy him making the 53.

Summary:

Will Campbell lost a one-on-one, bust.

Drake May had a tipped ball pick, bust.

Mike Vrabel is our best linebacker, our LBs are busts.

@Steve102 doesn’t think Kyle Williams makes the team, bust.

Wait… the usual suspects aren’t here.
Classic.

How many people did Vrabel kill in the pile?

Too bad he will used on 3rd downs and sparingly.

The High Priest doesn't like him because he's not going to put up big fantasy numbers for him to get all gooey about.
LMAO

Definitely a lot of ways to slice that pie regardless of new or old practice squad rules. I just tend to stick to the more traditional numbers at each position as my default and specifically with WR I don't feel the extra numbers are as useful on gameday. 5 maybe 6, 7 just seems excessive.
