Trade Branch

So, who is going to give us value for him? We don't need draft picks, we need a decent WR this year. Just because he is holding out during mini camp we trade him as the original post in this thread advocates?

Sorry, but that is stupid.
If we don't get value, we don't trade him. Draft choices are value. You may disagree but quit saying it's stupid because it's not. Let's say you trade Branch to KC for their #1 then get Stallworth or Lelie for a #4 or even a #3. You may not like the combination of deals but it's far from stupid as you would appreciate in 10 months sitting there with two #1 picks as opposed to Branch leaving for a comp pick as a UFA.

Until I see a real deal taking shape and not a what if deal, the original post on this thread is stupid.

The orginal post on this thread advocates "trading" him because he holds out of mini camp. Doesn't say who we trade him to or for what.

Now, let me ask you. If we can sign him to a 4 year deal, at the amount equal to the 15- 20th ranked WR is getting, would that be a better situation? I do.

Absolutley I would sign him. I love him and would "overpay" a little bit. But I'm not going to blindly say that trading him is stupid because if both of the following are true (and they may or may not be) - IF he wants to be in the top five paid WR in the league and IF we could get a #1 pick for him - then trading him would be a very viable option to me. If either of those items is false then trading him wouldn't be a viable option.

Who does this guy think he is? He's not as good as he thinks and doesn't deserve the money he thinks he's going to get. If he doesn't conform and sign a reasonable contract, trade him. I know they are short at WR, but Belichick can't let this greedy clown rob them. I know they'll probably sign him, but if he's not signed and in camp by July, dump him. He's not as good as he thinks. Every cent he earns is because of Brady, he should realize that.
Trade Jacky Roberts to the Pittsburgh board.

The guy runs routes across the middle and is one of the best route adjusters in the league. Guys who do this don't grow on trees (Ha! Branch...trees). Who knows if Chad Jackson has the intestinal fortitude to take on the safeties/linebackers and if he's got the brains to sync up with Brady on a blitz-adjustment. Until the Pats know that they have at least one WR on the roster who can do these things, trading Branch over a contract issue *hurts* the offense. Without such a guy, opposing defenses will cheat their coverage on the WRs to the outside, knowing nobody will truly test the middle. Without such a guy, Brady will be walking off the field a lot on 3rd down admonishing his WRs for another bad route adjustment.

Regards,
Chris

So you don't agree that by holding out for mini camp and not getting the deal done by July is the basis for trading him. That was the premise of the original post on this thread.

Once again, I would have to say that is a stupid premise. I'm not calling the original poster stupid - just the action that he advocated.

I would have to see how this all shakes out by the 3rd week of TC before I would even think about trading this guy.

This pissing contest is brought to you by Miller Lite. Drink more- piss more.

I disagree with you, I think Branch is a very very good WR. Regardless of this disagreement, it is certain that he is the #1 WR on this team, and that he is significantly better than any other WR that the Pats could pick up at this point in the offseason. He has plenty of leverage if he chooses to go that direction.

That being said I think he will be in camp and have a great year, a la Seymour last season.

The whole point of my thread was this: Only Richard Seymour (the best defensive player in the NFL) and Tom Brady (the best player in the NFL) can get away with this crap. Deion Branch isn't even in the top 5 of receivers in my mind. He needs to get his ass to camp asap and if not, he needs to be replaced. Sorry Deion, you ain't Jerry Rice and never will be...

I am as annoyed by Branch as most people, but this thread - and the poster - needs to be torched. This is asinine. Ian, please - help us out here.

What about this thread is wrong? Is it a capital crime to call this guy out?

No your thread does not need to be closed by IAN. It is your opinion - one that I don't agree with and I think is stupid.

But you do have just as much right to express that opinion as I have to disagree stongly with it.

Calling him out is a matter of personal judgement. Trading our only known WR who isn't about to get social security is bad football judgement as Chris in Sunnyvale posted a couple posts back. I say your judgement is poor on this issue.

Ignore the woosies who want posters or football opinions 'banned'.

No problem. Every sports board has a certain number of "rah rahs" who get upset when you point out anything negative about a team. Branch is clearly the best WR on the roster, but its a dangerous precedent to let this guy do it. Branch isn't talented enough to dictate his demands on Belichick in my opinion. Not only is he hurting himself, but its less time he can work with Jackson as well. His selfishness is astounding to me. I guess the "team first" concept that made this team great is slowly disappearing if second-level guys like Branch get away with this.
