A bit of background on DeAndre Carter and what makes him tick..

Patriots WR DeAndre Carter looking to fulfill promise to late brother by making NFL roster

Carter's brother and best friend, Kaylan, was taken off life support Aug. 16, 2013 at just 17 years old. He collapsed during a weight lifting workout six weeks prior during a session with his high school football team and shortly after doctors said he suffered from cardiomyopathy – an enlarged heart condition.

Carter was going into his junior season at Sacramento State and before Kaylan passed away, he made him one promise -- he would one day make it and succeed in the NFL, as the two grew up living and breathing football together and both had the dream of one day playing in the NFL.

With it becoming more and more likely that Amendola will start the year on the PUP, there is a good chance that Carter makes the team..

Good story , thanks. This is an interesting situation. Carter has apparently impressed in camp. Amendola is not yet in pads, but showing up and working out so apparently getting close (at any rate closer than Martin, Vollmer or Lewis). In addition, Amendola becomes a negative value proposition next year. My best guess is that Amendola dresses soon and returns, and that Carter is released hopefully making it to the PS.

If Amendola stays on PUP, then it's Edelman, Hogan, Martin, Mitchell, Slater. All Carter has to do is beat out Dobson (and make sure Harper has nothing to say about it). It may be destiny.

Regardless of the outcome of this story and who does or doesn't make the roster, it's certainly nice to have such an embarrassment of riches on this team.

I like the idea of Carter. He seems really speedy/shifty. But I can't see him making it as far as the final 53. Edelman, Hogan, Dobson, Mitchell, Martin and maybe even Harper are ahead of him on the depth chart, and then add Amendola, who may or may not start on the LTIR. I think Carter will go to the practice squad. And will be an injury replacement WHEN Dobson gets hurt.

So, you're putting Martin on the team despite the fact he's not practiced in forever this season?

Same reason I put Freeny on the team. Hasn't earned a spot, but getting extended so recently has to count for something.

How big is Carter? Edelman practically towers over him. LOL... that's a mark in his favor. BB has always favored the Smurfs.

I have a feeling that more than a few teams will be watching the Patriots waiver wire and picking up a few players who are cut................
