Tommy Kelly placed on season-ending IR

Been a tough year for injuries. I wonder if there is any evidence the NFL's improved safety rules actually reduce injury rates.

All I see is a bunch of evidence that injuries have increased

That sucks. I expect kelly, Wilfork, and Sopoaga all back next year but I still think that DT is going to be a focus in the offseason as they need to start getting younger at the position. How they address it as always will come down to where the opportunities lie. Hopefully this will be a good class of interior DL because i would love to see them take 2 young interior DL in this draft, and given the run on QB's and OL that the earliest mocks are predicting for the first round there is a good chance that a quality DL is going to be available in the first, and i wouldn't be at all surprised to see them double dip as Belichick has always had a tendency to do that in the draft.

This is really simpler than you make it. Wilfork and Kelly are no longer part of the 2013 team and will not be for the rest of the season. Armstead could be. Going into 2014, we have this year's players; we ALSO have Wilfork and Kelly.

Your choices of "core" vs. "also have" are peculiar. Even if you're thinking in terms of age and money, that doesn't explain Kelly vs. Sopoaga. And if you're emphasizing health, that doesn't explain Armstead.
