Titans' Fisher: Refs are doing a swell job, the fans are the problem...

I think the officials are doing a *terrible* job. I don't think it was ever necessarily any better than it is now.

Bryan hits the nail on the head. Today we just have more viewers. Fischer is correct in the sense that fans have less tolerance for bad calls now than they used to. Years ago, it was excepted that bad calls are part of the game but the hope is they even out over time.

One note in the defense of officials. People love to reference the NBA for having bad officials making bad, biased calls. Watching the sport on TV I was of the same mindset. Then a couple years back I was able to get courtside tickets (Knicks). After seeing games from that vantage point, with the speed and size of th players, I was pretty impressed at how well the NBA officials do call the game. This is the same for refs in most sports. The movement is so fast so precise and the difference between a foul and a good play is so miniscule, that close calls and outright bad calls are just the nature of the game.
The only problem I do have with the NFL is that many of their rules are written in a way that confuse refs or handcuff them from just calling what they see. Case in point was the Polamalu INT against the COlts. The ref was so concerned about what the letter of the law read that he couldn't just open his eyes and make the obvious call.

I vehemently disagree with the bolded part. In years past I can never recall calls as bad as the Polamalu "interception" that was called not an interception, or the "illegal block below the waist" by Hasselbeck, when he was NOW ON DEFENSE. The phantom holding call on the Seattle lineman on the critical pass down to the 2 yard line, it goes on. I don't know why some people want to make excuses for this garbage. Speed of the game had nothing to do with the three bad calls I cited.

Oh, the NBA is probably much better officiated right now than the NFL. So is MLB. The umps turned around two ultra-critical calls in the 2004 American League Championship series, getting them right the second time. Good for them. Baseball never used to do that; what was called the first time stayed. The NFL has become the worst officiated of the major sports (don't follow hockey).

Vehemently disagree? Well, okay. Sure, there have never been borderline holding calls....ever. Forever ever? Forever ever.
The Hassleback call was bad but it was actually called against the Steelers when they played the Colts in the regular season. It's a strange rule but it is on the books.

More irony: You blasting someone for judging religious beliefs in a country of free worship, and then telling him not to express his opinion in a country of free speech. I'm just sayin'.

I don't give a hoot about the whole argument and I don't give a hoot about anyone's religious beliefs, but to me the guy is free to talk about whatever he wants, I just skip those posts and chose not to read them if they don't concern me. It might help yah if you tried the same.

Yes, this is a free country. This is not a free board. Hence, threads are moved to other sectors because the do no belong on the main board. That isn't losing freedom of speach, it is posting appropriate material in the right place. Religious propaganda dosn't belong on the main board.

Maybe instead of playing Sgt O'Malley, Brickheaded Internet Cop, you'd be better served going back to 2nd grade English class

do no belong

I guess you're right. Sorry about that. I've always just been of the mind to skip over the stuff I don't care about. The only time I want things removed is when a troll comes along and shouts "TEH PARTIOTS SUX0RZZZ!!!!!!! DOOLFINS 4 LYFE!!!!!!!!!! TEH DINASTEE IS OHV3R!!!!!!!!!SS"

You are right that I need to skip over crap more, but this board has done a much better job than other boards at keeping it out. I just see it sinking in more and more. The last month has been the worst I have ever seen, and I love this board too much to see it sink.
