Thoughts from rewatching Patriots SB wins against Carolina and Eagles

I always felt the 04 team gets all the credit but I think the 03 team was the better of the 2. The big difference from 03 to 04 was the presence of Corey and that's huge but I think the 03 team with Ted Washington up front and a healthy secondary was the better of the 2 defensively. And so I lean that way.

The both of those "Homeland Security" defenses were so reliable.
I do think the 2004 offense was more explosive and TB12 was playing at a very high, efficient level.

Cant go wrong with either one, which is why the bb critics and spygate arguments are so stupid. Both of those teams were stacked defensively, experienced in the key areas, and built for super bowls more than any other pats team imo.

Since Friday I have watched 51 then Saturday I watched 36, 38, & 39. Today I listened to the radio broadcast of 51 and I am now watching 49.

It is now possible for the NFL Network to fill a DAY of programming... with Brady/BB Patriots Super Bowls.

Unbe-f**king-lievable.

I'm amazed by how Bad Mcnabb's throws are. I remember this guy wanting an apology and payment for getting benched. He should have had to pay the Eagles for letting him pretend to be a QB on an otherwise talented team.

The 38 & 39 SBs should not ever have really been as close as they were. Multiple blown chances to add points in both games, and the Carolina FG at the end of the first half was simply inexcusable.

I'll add a couple:

1. I forgot how good Deion Branch was.
2. I forgot how great of a game that Carolina Super Bowl was.
3. Tom Brady is a MUCH better qb now than he was then.
4. I forgot how vital Vrabel was to the goal line passing game.

The Carolina Super Bowl from start to finish might have been the best Super Bowl played by both teams.

The Eagles Super Bowl was the worst as far as entertainment value we had comfy 10 point lead and we all expected to win the game. It was a typical Patriots win. The most surprising thing about that Super Bowl was how good T.O was coming off a broken leg.

Seattle, St. Louis, Carolina, and Atlanta all amazing games to watch. I really have trouble ranking them.

I always put the Rams Super Bowl #1 thats what got it started and we were huge under dogs.

I finally watched a decent amount of the losses too. That 2011 game...they should have got Gronk out of the game. Not good.

Still there for the taking though...at least Hermandez never got a ring.

Early 2000s, when D was allowed more - BB builds around LBs. Modern game, when D is often flagged & passing popular - BB builds around secondary.

BB's ability to adapt is undervalued.

Tommy's safety, pass to Welker, Gronk under thrown for an end zone pick, not his finest game

Ted Washington, best NT, sorry Vince

Watching SB 42 again, and the 3 fumbles that occurred ALL went NYG's way! This game was also not Asante Samuel's best day as there were 3 plays involving Tyree that could have turned the game in our favor. There's the near INT on the Tyree TD, the dropped INT before the helmet catch, and then of course the helmet catch where it was Samuel's man who got open.

Guess SB 51 was the football gods repaying us for all the bounces that we didnt get on that fateful day.

2003-Best DEF of TB/BB Era
2004- Best TEAM of TB/BB Era

This will get lost in history because we fans will never want to rehash this game, but in my mind Super Bowl 46 had one of Brady's greatest drives, ever.

Trailing 9-3 with like 4 minutes (and change) to go in teh first half, the Pats take over on their own 5 yard line or something (maybe 10). Anyways, the Pats have done nothing to that point and even though the Pats have the ball, the real concern is that another sputtered drive will setup the Giants with great field position. The reality of a 12-3 deficit (or more) was quite real at that time.

Well, the Pats go on an epic drive that was both beautiful from an execution standpoint but also a clock management standpoint. Instead of giving the ball back to the Giants with good field position, the Pats score with a mere few seconds remainingin the half on a TD pass to Danny Woodhead. In a game that looked UGLY UGLY UGLY, the Pats all of a sudden found themselves leading at halftime, 10-9. That was an incredible, incredible drive. That would go down in Pats lore if they had only won the game. That loss still stings, but the recent victories certainly help.

As close as TB12 is to 7-0 in the SB...he is pretty close to 1-6, also. Weird.

Very true, I think we fans need to take greater appreciation for this. We tend to harp on the ones we lost and think, oh man, so close to 7-0, when really we should be ecstatic about 5-2.

He also missed a wide-open Edelman on 3rd/4 from the vaGiants 14 early in the 2nd quarter, on only their 2nd drive of the game.
The score at the half should've been 14-0, then 21-0 after they scored on the opening drive of the 2nd half.
