The Official Vrabel vs Ben Johnson Discussion Thread

If they hire Vrabel and he's allowed to bring in his GM, I only have 2 bits of advice to him:

#1. Wear the pin.

#2. Simulate a corporate culture by hiring a bunch of dweebs who will crank out reports to the Krafts, write in green ink on every report, “This is good, we’ll implement this right away,” and in red ink strike one thing out and say, “This doesn’t work… because…” Give them the illusion of a corporate structure. And if things go wrong in any given week, fire one of the dweebs.

True, true. Well, you have to be competent yourself; I'm just talking about the things you need to do just to survive the first test.

It’s a Seinfeld reference about the pin lol

I used to work for E2G Sports. My friend who started it has connections and sources. I was just told that Vrabel and Pats had a deal in place since last Tuesday. Last Tuesday, Jonathan and Vrabel had a dinner meeting. The deal is done, Vrabel will be the HC. As for people that will come with him, here are the names I am hearing:

Terrell Williams
Tim Kelly
Tommy Rees
Ryan Cowden(GM?)
Tom Quinn
Roman Phifer
I find this very interesting because Cowden and Phifer are both front office guys and Tim Kelly and Rees are both TE coaches with pass ame coordinator and OC experience. Tom Quinn is already on the Pats staff.

Not necessarily. This is much different than last year, and Vrabel is MUCH more than just an old familiar face.
He's been outside of this system for 17 years. He played for Todd Haley, coached for Urban Meyer, O'Brien, and Stefanski in 4 other organizations since being a Patriot.
That's a lot of diverse experience. He's not just a home-grown patsy (pun intended).
We need a very motivated guy with 6 yrs of HC experience, not a 38 year old who won't be able to hide in the offensive lab as a first time HC.
Its the same as far as Krafts mind being made up before he talks to anyone else. I thin Vrabes is the guy we need and am excited to see this team under his tutelage.

Like Johnson, Glenn will eventually leave.

He was a part of the AFC East gauntlet of CB's including Ty Law, Sam Madison and Patrick Surtain.

This makes Vrabel more attractive to me. Saleh is a horrible head coach, but he is a great DC.

No thanks. I am completely out.

He is a Seattle 3 defensive guy. I don’t want him turning Gonzo into Sauce Gardner. It would be an enormous waste of talent.

Yep would love to see where this "rumor" is coming from, Saleh makes 0 sense with how this team is construed.....plus I would expect he would want to go to a team that already has the personal in place, maybe make some tweaks to some things, and try to get his name fixed for a future HC cycle.

I feel like having a good HC is more important than OC trying to be a HC

Not only does he have to do it again, but he has to do a better job of keeping the positions behind the OC stocked for an easier transition.....brain drain is real
I think he was kind of set up there as well considering whoever followed Smith was screwed since it’s very hard to replace AJ Brown

I'm calling it now, Patriots will announce Vrabel as HC by Friday morning. It might even be leaked Thursday night. Get ready for Vrabel to be HC. Any of you against hiring Vrabel, you better prepare because he will be the HC of the New England Patriots.
As much as it is likely, it would be exactly what Kraft should not do. There will have to be a coaching interview circus first. The right decision has to be made this time, not just hoping it works out .
