The Official Eat Crow thread pertaining to this season

ill start eating crow any time, i thought we would have 5 wins

I had my crow well done. When Brady went down, I thought the Pats would have the first pick in the draft. 99.9% of people on this board wanted Matt Cassel cut, including myself. He turned out to be the man and will make some big bucks this offseason. However, I feel I was right about the defense being the reason why the Pats would lose most of their games. I didn't like their secondary going into the season but they improved over the last 4 games. With that said, the Pats really need to upgrade their CB's, get a SS to move Merriweather to FS and get a damn pass rusher!

I never thought Cassel would pan out.

I thought that Chad Jackson would turn out to be a good receiver.

I'll have some pie too.

I heckled posters without mercy in the "Maroney is made of glass" and "Watson is a bust" thread over the last couple seasons. I was sorta an apologist for both and told those who saw they should "get off the band wagon".

My apologies to you. This season made it clear, we need to go in different directions then Maroney and Watson.

Probably thought, like everyone, that Cassel would be a bust. Was never real loud about it, so I'll forgo that slice since too many people will be eating at that table

Hahahaha, same here. I had zero confidence in Cassel when Brady went down. Didn't post much about it, so I dunno if I necessarily have to eat crow, but I was definitely thinking it.

I do have to eat crow with the following people:

- Guyton - I didn't buy into the preseason hype on this guy. I was wrong. He might not have been the stud some people made him out to be, but he was solid this year.
- Maroney - I have to admit that I bought into his late 2007 performance. I am still not ready to call the guy a bust, but he doesn't look to be the guy I thought he would be.
- Cassel - I thought he was a bust in the preseason. I did think the Pats could win with him right after Brady went down, but I thought he would soley be a game manager while the defense would carry the team. Happily he was so much more.
- The front seven - unfortunately, I was wrong about these guys. I thought they would be dominant this year. Unfortunately, they were rather passive on passing downs until late in the season.
- Dave Thomas - Another eating crow in a bad way. Thought this guy was going to emerge this year as a pretty good TE. Unfortunately, he will be remembered in 2008 for a costly personal foul more than anything else.

Outside the Patriots:

- The Colts - I thought they would be 10-6 although I correctly predicted they would be a Wild Card team. They were better than that although I don't know if they are as good as the media is ball washing them to be.
- The Jags - I predicted them to win the South. Oops.
- The Browns would win the North
- New Orleans to the Super Bowl

Some predictions I was right about and proud of it (for the most part):
- Mayo would be DROY (ok, he isn't yet)
- The Cowboys would implode with a few losses in a row
- Favre would not be the positive impact most of the media and fans and they may find themselves behind the Dolphins in the rankings at the end of the season
- The Dolphins would be a surprise team and beat a lot of teams they weren't supposed to (although I thought they would be 8-8 or 9-7)

I never thought Cassel would pan out.

I thought that Chad Jackson would turn out to be a good receiver.

Me too. I have been waiting for Ben Watson to prove me right for some years as well. At some point, I'm going to have to accept that he drops a lot of passes....

My turn.

I come before you today as a bitter, broken, humbled Jets fan, with a tendency to over exaggerate.

Lot's to eat crow about.

1. Mangini, I thought the Jets had something with Mangini, I suppose his downfall was not being able to coach a 2nd half. I am going to miss the handshake discussions.

2. Cassel, I thought BB was insane for not bringing in a Vet back up.

3,4,5,6,7,8,9 etc. = every other stupid belief or thought I have ever expressed on Patsfan.com.

The good news is my favorite team has improved talent wise, and after Cowher takes over I have little doubt that the Jets will go 11 and 5 and win the AFCE again next year.

All around this was a great NFL season which I am sure I will look back on with fondness as time goes by.

Looking back we'll never know why BB kept Cassel as all signs pointed to an inexperienced QB unable to take on the NFL. His success was one of the great stories of the year.

heck - apparently even BB had his doubts, or else he wouldn't have invited any veteran QBs in for interviews.

Of course that was when he expected Brady would be the starter and might have been willing to gamble that this year, like every other year, he'd be healthy the whole year and a veteran would have ample time to get up to speed on our system.

When Brady went down and it was Cassel or no one he wisely cancelled those interviews/tryouts.

I do have some outside teh Patriots crow to devour. This year was the year I thought the Colts would implode to 4-12.

Early on, It seemed to be a good prophecy too. I still don't know how they are doing it. Outside of a QB and a couple of WRs, they don't have anything at all...

Jax still needs a QB. They added to their pass rush by losing their interior D line and that is not progress. I too picked them to take the AFCS.

My turn....
1) I have to eat crow on this one because I never thought Maroney would still be on the roster by years end. He is "Rudolph the Red Nose 1st Round Running Back BUST" that Santa Belichick just can't seem to part with.

2) I have to eat crow to Dolphins fans because I never thought they would pummel use like they did in week three 38-13. That was a beat down.

3) I have to eat crow because I never would have thought the Dolphins would have won the AFC East this year. Shocking!!!!!!!!

4) I have to eat crow because I thought Kevin Faulk turning to smoking the Wacky Weed was a bad sign for his career. I was wrong. He had a great year. I might start a collection and mail him some hash if it helps that much.

5) I have to eat crow to Patriots fans who still went to the games. I thought they would bail once Tom Brady went down. Kudos to you guys.
