The 2014 Mock draft Thread.

I've become obsessed with us taking another tight end this year, and the 2 players I love are Amaro and Lyerla. Amaro might not come out, and Lyerla an knuckle head, but I love their game.

TE/DT/OL main concerns, but O linemen can be found in the 2=5 rounds. Also Wilfork, Kelly, Sopogoa and Armstead are all under contract next year still, that obv can change.

Just reading about how BB views the TE position, he's def gonna draft a TE this year, just don't know who or when.

Unfortunately, I now think TE is an absolute must.

I just hope GRONK can be back in Week 1, and not Week 10. :(

I think maybe one or two defensive picks, but this should be an offensive draft in the main.

Sure with pass rusher - Rest have to wait. We aint getting pressure from others the Jones. Ninko sometimes, but we need another. So Fat runstuffing DTs is off the list. OL can be picked later in round 4 and 6.

Personally don't like this one too much, but that's just me

3. Marcus Roberson, CB, UF
4. Arthur Lynch, TE, UGA
6. Aaron Murray, QB, UGA
6. Trey Millard, FB, Oklahoma

I'd like to see the stats but I think Nink is almost as good as Jones. He doesn't get as many sacks, but he gets almost as many pressures.

12/9 Mock Straight Up:
R1. Darqueze Dennard, CB, MSU
R2. ASJ, TE, Wasgington
R3. DaQuan Jones, DT, PSU
R4. Andrew Jackson, ILB, Western Kentucky
R6. Arthur Lynch, TE, UGA
R6. Trey Millard, FB, Oklahoma
R6. John Uschel, G, PSU
R6. Jacob Pedersen, TE, Wisconsin
R7. Ben Malena, RB, TAMU
Went a little unrealistic IMO this time, any comments or questions please post

Whilst I'd be very happy with Jones in the third, I'm a little more down on him than I was. I'm just not sure he's either stout enough or consistently dominant enough to warrant a high pick. At times he looks great but there are fairly unimpressive moments too. I'm not convinced that Jones in the first or second offers much more than Stephen in the third or fourth.

If I was to play with your mock, I'd go Dennard in the first, use the third to trade up in the second for ASJ which I think is more realistic and then take Shamar Stephen in the fourth. I'd probably choose different players later on but I'm not going to quibble with your choices which are absolutely fine.

For some reason i cant see Talib leave with Gronk getting hurt Again. We simply cant create another hole to fill. We have 2 gaurds on 31+, a center there shouldn't be starter on a contender team, TEs are in prison and WHO knows if Gronk can keep recovering . Dennard got a extra month i prison. Might need a new Building rock at DT.

All bets are off but this is how i think right now.

1 Tuitt - ( Called this pick 13-14 months ago gonna stick with it )
2+3 ASJ - Useing 3 to move up and getting a new TE.
4 Gabe Ikard
6a Spencer Long
6b Trade for 2x7
6c Marquis Flowers
6b Tom Savage
7a Trey Millard
7b Jacob Petersen
7c Colt Lyerda

Just saw a somewhat unrealistic Pats mock from Rantsports.com
1. Amaro, TE
2. Richardson, WR
3. McCullers, DT
4. Ikbard, C
6. Demarcus Lawrence, DE
6. Colt Lyerla, TE
7. John Martinez, G
I love the Amaro pick for us in 1 and McCullers in 3 seems like a possible steal, I don't see the need for Ikbard with Cave on PS but that's just me. I also don't like the idea of a second round WR and would take one much later on like Gallon from Michigan. Didn't know much about Lawrence until now and now I admire his strong pass-rush ability. I love the Lyerla pick in the 6th only if we make sure this guy isn't a complete mess up headcase and also like a late round G like Martinez or Urschel. Although a but unrealistic, solid mock from RantSports.

I don't see why one would take both Amaro and Lyerla. Neither are inline guys so they just duplicate each other.

I don't know I see Amaro more like a Gronk/AH crossbreed and Lyerla like an AH duplicate, another TE that I love as you know probably is Arthur Lynch from UGA

I like this mock, one of my favorites I've seen, I'd rather have Nix than Tuitt though or even Trent Murphy, not that Tuitt has anything wrong, I like the ASJ pick, very solid, I don't see the need for Ikbard honestly, but I am in love with the rest of the picks after Flowers. Savage seems like a system fit although I'd rather target Murray if he's still available, I love Millard's versatility (Vereen 2.0), and like the Pedersen pick. I also like Long in the sixth. Maybe the only thing I'd change majorly is take an RB over Ikbard but aside from that I love this mock

He said that a month ago, then said he didn't know if Senior Day would also be his last home game at Tech, who knows?

Interesting, in that case I'm fine with grabbing both of them. "Two is one and one is none." - The classic SEAL answer to "how many ____ should I pack"?

I realise this mock probably doesn't score that well on excitement, but I think it actually works fairly well.

Note: I'm assuming Enron, Amaro, Hageman and Tuitt are gone before we pick. This mock also allows for the possibility of Talib and Blount leaving as well as one of Wilfork or Kelly.

Sign

Scott Chandler or Jake Ballard

This gives us a reasonable backup to Gronk.

Round One

Travis Swanson, OC, Arkansas

With TE taken care of (sort of) in FA and prospects like Ebron, Amaro, Dennard, Hageman and Tuitt all getting further out of reach, Swanson fits nicely in terms of fit and need. He would be behind those names on my big board personally but I do like the fit.

Round Two

Louchiez Purifoy, CB, Florida

He isn't my favourite CB by any means but his athleticism, length, special teams excellence and Florida connection make him a possible Patriot.

Round Three

Zach Mettenberger, QB, LSU

Can spend a year on IR and then takes over from Mallet almost as a like for like replacement. Mettenberger has legitimate future starter skills so I think represents excellent 3rd value.

Round Four

Billy Turner, OL, North Dakota State

One of the better linemen in this draft at getting to the second and third levels which is a must in our offense. Has excellent size to play at guard for us. Also provides extra cover at LT which is pertinent at the moment.

Round 6A

Trade to New Orleans for Mark Ingram

This is my pet theory at the moment.

Round 6B

Shamar Stephen, DT, UConn

I like his value better than Daquan Jones and his all roundedness better than Carrethers and at 6-5 and 318lbs has really good Patriot size.

Round 6C

Trey Burton, HB, Florida

Ideally he needs to add a few pounds to be a legitimate dual threat as a move TE but Burton has genuine sub 4.50 speed and at 225lbs makes for someone who can be used in a variety of ways. I see the potential for a tremendous camp competition between him and Mark Harrison for that flex position on the offense.

Round 7

David Fluellen, FB, Toledo

Nimble feet, runs with intelligence and a quality receiving back. Offers some decent cover behind Vereen.
