I think the day 2 draft will indicate that the Pats are switching to a predominately 4-3 D. I was thinking that by passing on Odrick and the OLB's, that the switch may have happened. With more and more teams moving to a 3-4, those types of players are in more demand. And BB has always been a person that likes to buck the trends.

I think the draft indicates that they are switching for to a 2-9.................

If BB wants to go 4-3 then give Washington a #2 and maybe a later pick and get Haynesworth, but we all know thats not going to happen....
Haynesworth OR a primary 4-3 for that matter

If we are going 4-3, and IF he's been paid the 20mil roster bonus he's due, then we'd be mad not to imo.

Yes he may be a contract player but I think the chance of a superbowl run with us would motivate him

We can play 4 DT on the dline and continue to see qb have time to throw and no pass rush.

sounds like a plan.

I would just hope to God that if we go a 4-3 that our line, especially on the left side does not look like....

OLBs?!? Is Jerry Hughes so good that he is like two OLBs because he is the only OLB the Pats have passed on thus far.

People do realize that the only front seven players drafted from 22 on last night were Odrick, Hughes, and Dan Williams. The Pats weren't going to draft Williams with Wilfork here. They might not have liked either Odrick or Hughes. Belichick usually loves to draft d-lineman in the first (Seymour, Warren, Wilfork). So he might not have been high on Odrick.

I think people are overreacting. There are still plenty of front seven talent that are projected to be 3-4 players (Sapp, Griffen, Kindle, Wotten). People are crying on all the OLBs the Pats have passed on and they only passed on one.

You mean left side as you've written them or left side as they would play?

As they would play,it depends on which way you view the line of course

I think Hughes will be depth for the Colts but I don't see him seeing starting time in 2010,I really don't think he is going to be that great of a pro,Carlos Dunlap would probably have been a better pick.

Word out is that the Raiders will be picking up Dunlap when they come up in round 2,I hope not I want him there at 44

Just a thought, but I'm wondering if there could be an even more interesting shift from conventional thinking in their base defense.

With the rules so slanted to assist the passing game, and the spread offense becoming en vogue in the NFL. Maybe Belicheck is looking at the big nickel as a viable base D.

4-2-5

3-3-5

Even a 2-4-5

There game plan specific, so they could change their base D depending on opponent. But, it seems Bill is placing a priority on back end talent. I assume they have a plan in mind, and they always think outside the box.

Plus solidifying the back end gives more flexibility to disguise coverages, and blitz packages. Something to keep in mind.

I was surprised at the Hughes pick too, but Mathis and Freeney are getting up there. They probably need DB more, but the Pats and Jets took their guy instead
