Speculation: Patriots set to make big trades

To be fair, she said Talib was the next name we were going to hear about with the Pats. And he was. I'd say that's a pretty solid hit.

This was more of a process of elimination than anything else I think...

She's been gone for about 8 hours. Must be getting some really juicy information :singing:

From the neck down, Suh is a future Hall Of Famer. BUT, does BB take such a big chance on such a big head case ? And do we have enough cap space for this ?

I think we have the cap space but like you said Suh is a major headcase. The hope would be that he would calm down and become more professional under the influence of Wilfork and the Pats lockerroom.

BUT worse case scenario is that he turns into another Haynesworth. Ouch. A risky move indeed but it would be huge to add an athletic DT/DE like Suh to this team.

One thing I like about Suh as opposed to Haynesworth, is Suh doesn't give up on a play, his motor never stops. Plus he gives you a pass rush from the tackle position. I think this is a pipe dream though, we don't have enough picks to make a trade like this.

There's no way the Lions are going to trade Suh after restructuring his contract earlier this month.

BTW, Suh redid his contract a few days ago. Any chance he was going to be traded went out the window with the restructure. No chance they trade him now. He just converted like $8 million of his base salary into a bonus.

Exactly. His 2013 cap hit right now is about $10.5 million. If the Lions trade him, his 2013 dead money would be over $29.2 million.

Take it for what its worth. I do not know how reliable the source is...

Dennis Farrell ESPN ?@Dennis77Farrell
Starting to hear rumblings that the New England Patriots are set to make a big trades

In other news...

Erika Leigh ?@_ErikaLeigh
I did get a tip about Talib re-signing, but I can't confirm it yet. Working on it now.

Looks like Erika was more spot on than ESPN

LOL at anyone who thinks we could get suh for anything less than four first round picks.

And LOL even more at anyone who would do that for an overrated, idiot me first player like suh.

I'm beginning to think the rumors of a big trade might have to do with draft day.

If so and so is available in Round 1 at team X's pick we will trade you our player A and our pick # ?? for your pick. (or something along those lines).

JMHO

Wait, you actually think that Suh is worth 4 1st rd picks? Dude, seriously? Give me some of your oxycontins...quit Rush Limpbaughing them.

I think the Lions would move him for a 1st round pick, I used to live in Michigan and the perception I got is that they don't think they can resign him because his demands are around what his ridiculous rookie contract paid him and he obviously is not worth that as he's been a bit underwhelming since a tremendous rookie year.

The bigger problem is they've managed the cap so terribly and restructured him so many times that trading him would create a 29 million dollar cap hit. Something a terrible cap managed or even a well managed team cannot endure.

Split over two years, however, unlikely.

Makes his dead money in 2013 from a trade even more than it was.
Miguel, correct me if I'm wrong. I was under the impression that one of the few benefits of a trade is that any signing bonus money stays with the original team. For example. If team A signed a player to a 5 year $50MM deal with a $20MM signing bonus. The $4MM annual carry over stays with the team and is not carryied over to the new team. So the new team would only be responsible for the $6MM in annual salary.

More of a problem would be the example of Erik Wright who the Bucs are trying to trade. IF you traded for him, even though his contract isn't guaranteed, he'd still count $7.5MM against your current cap. That's a lot for a guy who didn't play to that level last season, and is a joint away from a year's suspension. He's a guy I wouldn't mind kicking the tires on, but only if he was a FA. I can't see any team taking a risky player,. at best, AND have your cap hit by that much money, even for a 7th rounder

mmm i can sense all these big trades coming!
