Sums it up nicely. We had 3 QBs with 0 starts last year. Now TFB is back, he is the vet mentor with O'C and Gutz. Maybe bring in another QB to challenge Gutz for the #3 whether it be a vet minimum or new PS material.

no........brady came in and was effective in his 2nd year......

cassel took a couple of more years, but didn't play in college........

no reason to believe that o'connell can't do close to the same.........

that said, a guy like huard could be useful for a pinch, but if brady if out for an extended period again, the pats will go with o'connell

Another thing to consider is that O'Connell is now used to getting #2 practice reps. I don't think Belichick will want to disrupt his development by making him a #3 now. Not making a judgement on how game-ready he is...just saying that you generally want your developmental players to get more opportunities, not less. Unless O'Connell is not the player they thought they were getting with a 3rd round pick, I see him as the #2.
