I hope we can all agree that:

  • The Pats might win the Super Bowl this year; this is a team that should never be counted out.
  • The Pats won't win the Super Bowl this year unless a lot goes right from this point onward.
So what really needs to go right for the Pats to overcome all the bad luck and win it all? My list is roughly:

1. The secondary has to be very good. This is conceivable; they were for a while, and nobody in the group is injured for the season.

2. The Front Seven has to manage an adequate run defense plus an adequate pass rush. I think that's the most that can be hoped for at the remaining level of healthy talent; they have to get that much done. Chandler Jones is an outstanding player, today's game notwithstanding; Rob Ninkovich is a darned good one; the rest are ... mixed blessings. Adequate is their upside.

3. The remaining receivers have to have good collective health. This includes Vereen's pass-dropping wrist.

4. We need five healthy OL who can play. We have them, but we can't lose another guy unless Cannon comes back whole.

5. Josh McDaniels has to do a better job in the first quarter.

Look at my sig. I update it after each game. We are only 24 quarters away. We have to start playing our best football now.

This is essential. Bunch of smurfs and dobson (hopefully). Surprise pass very occasionally to Hooman or the other guy.

Vereen as RB/WR and use the other RBs. The facy is, there's no match up issue, but it must be hard to game plan for fairly equal players.

They should be able to work a gameplan to move those chains a while and put up points. Obviously, not able to steam roll teams.

Playing from the lead means less worry about run defense.

Everybody on the active roster has played important moments. Some great weeks of practice could allow us to jump on some teams.

Blount is a funny kind of character. Not a natural short yardage back; (though he's worked hard this year) He looks more like he thinks he's a 250 pound Barry Sanders, leaping and spinning and reversing direction.

He seemed pretty relaxed catching the ball and, of course, he wreaks havoc when let loose in the open field. I could see installing a play or two to get him open to see where he can take it.

I think Develin, Hooman or whoever need to get looks sometimes just to keep them honest, but none of them can do damage like Blount couls in an open field run.

I was a bit of a Blount hater at the beginning of the season, but he's definitely improved and I'm now a fan. Minus Ridley's fumbleitis (a little overblown IMO) we have the best RB corps in the entire league.

Ridley played very compact today.

He seems like a live wire, while Blount doesn't look like he has a nerve in his body. Lots of playoff games are won by a couple plays from unexpected sources.
