Do you want him? he brings the attitude people have been wanting the pats to have

I HAVE been wanting the pats to choke the **** out of tia tequila for a long time, but outside of that I don't think he's worth much.

I would consider Merriman for the right price. I doubt that price will ever come to fruition so it is moot, but I wouldn't totally rule out trading for him.

One simple question: what does Merriman actually bring to the table? For now, let's ignore all of his considerable faults, and just focus on the positives. There aren't many, and whatever there were, they're from doing things that he wouldn't be doing in the Pats' defense anyways.

Now, consider that whatever he used to be capable of, that was a positive steroid test and a major knee injury ago, and he looked like an absolute JAG last year. No thanks.

Anquan Boldin, Brandon Marshall, Santonio Holmes and Donovan McNabb all went for less than a 1st.

I'd never even consider giving up a 1st for this guy, never. 3rd at most.

Merriman hasn't been a factor in 3 years and, even when he was an elite pass rusher, his instincts, coverage and run d were below average.

What the Patriots need on their defense are balanced players who are equally adept vs. pass and run and who can play every down. The dynastic defenses featured not one double digit sack pass rushers, rather several guys with 5-8 sacks each (Seymour, Vrabel, Colvin, Willie, TBC). Picking up one has-been doesn't fix the team's pass rush issues, it will take a combination of guys stepping up.

After we trade for Merriman, we can send a 4th round pick to the Jets for LT.

He's the complete opposite of the mindset we seem to be working towards this offseason. We want versatile, tough, high character, good locker room guys.

Merriman would be a square peg in that round hole, and he's at best a 50/50 chance to regain any kind of top form.

Merriman hasn't been a factor in 3 years .

In fact in '07 he had 12.5 sacks.. So I wouldn't say 3 years he hasn't been a factor.. And 2 years ago he had a major injury.. The question I want answered is, how is the knee now after 2 years removed from being on the IR. We've heard plenty of times it takes almost 2 full years to recoup

And Lets not forget the defensive coordinator over there, Ron Rivera.. Since the change from Ted Cottrel in '08, Merrimans states have dropped.. Rivera stinks and is more familar with a 4-3 defense..

Plus Shawn might have had a few issues off the field in the past, but nothing like Stallworth, who a lot of people wanted to bring back..

His teammates have always had his back and he brings an intensity to the field.

I know he's made public his opinions of the Pats but if Jason Taylor can go to the Jets, I think S.Merriman can come to the Pats.. In todays NFL, its all about dollar and cents!

One other note, next to TB, who is our starting OLB? Merriman might have been a JAG last year, but I don't even know if we have a JAG on our roster..

For all these factors, I would enjoy seeing him play here for the right place (3rd rounder and maybe a conditional) and if his knee is sound... But I know its not going to happen..

Because he is coming off of a major injury and had a bad year, he's worth a 4th at best. However, there is a chance that he could regain his pro bowl form this season. If the Pats can get him for a 4th or 5th round pick, I'd take chance.

The only way he regains his Pro Bowl form is with a needle and a bottle of 'roids. No thanks.
