Why? This would mean the other teams interest in possible trades or free agents is lower imo, which would give us a hard time get a solid trade and a replacement. We need gyus familiar in the system with all the shifts on coaching as well

Mason by himself isn't going to get Brady an "easy ring." He effectively replaces Ali Marpet, so as of today, the Bucs are no better than they were when they played the Rams a few months ago.

What surprises me the most with this move is that Mason is only 28 years old (seems like he's been here forever). I'm guessing that a couple of things played into this - would he play on his non-guaranteed, cheap contract through next year? or was he going the Gilmore route?

And/or, BB wants money to grab some guys tomorrow and didn't want to have to borrow it all from next year. He probably thinks he can fix the OL "enough" pretty cheaply with the draft and the guys in house - Herron, Desjarlais, Cajuste, Williams, etc. - but needs some $$ for D talent.

Marpet and Mason are a wash. The Oline play will be around the same even with losing Cappa. Adding Gage could be interesting they lost a great safety though in Whitehead.
