They do look low. That was my first reaction. But then I thought, damn the Patriots must have guaranteed a good chunk of this contract.
Maybe they made an error somewhere.

Well, it could be that its an extension that replaces the final year of the contract. Which would make Seymour free in 2010 AFTER the 2009 season.

Its going to be interesting to see if they correct anything.

No, they wouldn't be able to do that because of the one-year rule.

These are salary numbers exclusive of signing bonus, which appears to be approx. $7.5M, if it is a $30M package and there is no year 2010 in the deal as had been reported.

Since the media reported it being a four year EXTENSION (quoting "NFL sources), I would have expected there to be a 2010 salary on there.

Supposedly the Pats confirmed it was a 4 year extension through 2010, so this is odd. Also odd if as Adam JT13 indicated last night they could not actually do the deal until August if it effected his salary in 2006. Those salaries total $22.835M which less his existing $2.2M salary would only leave about $10M in total bonus money.

Strange to say the least. would be an understatement.

JUST EDITING THIS FOR CLARITY - adjusting for the missed spacing on the salaries it's $5.6M total salaries leaving plenty of room for bonuses and options and the 2010 salary to come.

i think they can do it now because it is an extention, not renegotiation of a contract. I might be wrong, but that is how i took it.

Chris Price has some notes up on his blog from the recently completed media conference call with Richard. Richard seems to indicate it is a 4 year extension resulting in another 5 years as a Patriot, so....

Reiss has updated his blog as well and Richard was asked if the the perception that his deal is a 4 year extension worth between $7-8M per year was correct - and he said that sounded about right to him.

Well we don't know the full terms of the deal yet. Let's wait and see what the complete deal is. Maybe there is an option or roster bonus in there that adds on another year??

Teach me not to not click the link.....

Actually they were missing the 0 or space at the front. So it is highly likely that there is an option bonus tied in to trigger 2010 once we get to August. Plus likely lots of other bonus language depending on just how much they are giving him this season and how much of that they want to absorb this season. There is only $5.6M in actual salary in those 2006-2009 and when you subtract the $2.2 that his 2006 salary was due to be that's only $3.4M in new money via salary.

So 5 more hopefully peaceful years at less than $7M average between 2006-2010. Great deal for the Pats and for Seymour too apparently since he does sound almost giddy to have an extension done.

He does sound like a very happy man.

Miguel reported on another thread that 2010 is an option year but that the team needs to excerise that option by THIS August or else all of his 2009 salary and bonuses become guaranteed (to the tune of $20 million)

so there is no way they don't make this a 4 year extension by declining that option - at which point you will see 2010 numbers at the NFLPA

I wasn't reporting. I was trying to give an example of what may be going on. I apologize for giving the impression that I had contract details.
