Schefter: Branch to New England for 4th round pick

I can understand concerns about his knees after the surgeries, but why are people complaining about his age? Branch is two years younger than Moss and Houshmandzadeh, one year older than Boldin, and two years older than Welker.

Why are people complaining at all, who knows. He can contribute immediately opposite of Tate, we have a ton of picks and not a ton of expiring contracts.

bring back samuel, simour..... and go pats.

Wouldn't it have been funny if Patten made the team and then he and Branch were old/new Pats? Well, maybe not very funny.

I dont mind this trade at all...

Do we even have 11 spots?????

I think the answer to that is no. I think Bodden and Warren will be back, but I think Faulk is done (hate to say that). Otherwise, they need to give all these 1st and 2nd year players a chance to see how good they can be.

Also, don't forget that they'll probably get a 3rd rd. comp pick for Mankins (assuming he comes back in a few weeks). I think BB will trade down with one of the 1st rounders and plan on taking 5-6 players in the first 4 rounds...trading the rest. Suits me just fine.

Good move to add some much needed depth.

The equation that Dues presents just shows that there are other factors at play. The reality is that the Pats were at the disadvantage in both trades.

If there's one thing I've learned in life it's that people love to complain.

Branch and a 3rd for Moss and a 4th. That's an incredibly bad return that's the result of horrible decision making in the offseason.

Which offseason decision(s) are you specifically referring to?

Every one of those guys but Bodden (and he's reaching there) are at the twilight of their careers. It sucks they went down but in a sense, it's almost a good thing because it's forcing the new guys to play. Honestly, I wouldn't expect anything from Warren, Nick K, or Faulk.

Kaczur will be 31, Warren will be 30, and Bodden will still be 29 on opening day. These guys are all in their primes and lined up to play with Brady in his last deal.

Rodney was 32 before he ever played a down for New England. Law turned 30 in the last Super Bowl season. And those guys were d-backs, not down-linemen like Warren and Kaczur. Mike Compton, Bryan Cox, McGinest, Vrabel... The Pats have gotten a lot of mileage out of guys in the 29-33 range. Again, the negativity is amazing.

Warren is 29...
Kaczur is 31
Faulk is old but can still produce ....

I guarantee at least warren and faulk will make the team next year

We are already very young and will continue to get younger with all the picks we have...

I just dont see why people are complaining

I'm not being negative, players generally decline after 27-28 and even moreso after serious injuries. Late 20's is the prime, not 30+... I'm just being realistic. Rodney Harrison is a freak, one of a kind safety. Kaczur, Warren, and Bodden are not stars at their positions.

That comp pick would be in 2012, not 2011.

Anyone saying 29 is washed up is just ridiculous...

We will see production from all these players (minus maybe nick K)

For a fourth, do they need to be a star? A dependable starter with an upside would be good in my books.

Oh no, not again! Why do we have to keep reading your homespun truisms?

Harrison was 30 his first season with the the Pats not 32.

Hey Deus, you look..different!

I do not follow this logic. We traded Maroney to Denver for a 4th round pick, then used that pick (or even better, ours) to get Branch. So as far as the Pats are concernedits essentially Maroney straight up for the Twig. Thats not so bad.

Moss's third round pick is still in play.

The guy skipped part of the offseason so he could get ready for his life after football and then suffered a season ending injury. Where do you think his head is at?

IRapp is reporting live on SportsHub right now that the 4th should be indicative of Seattle paying most of his current salary in exchange. A 4th is disgusting by itself, but getting salary relief lessens the blow IMHO. It's funny that they still wouldn't pay him his salary in the end.

Can't do that in football unlike in baseball. You trade the contract. The only money that remains with the old team is the amortized money from the bonuses.
