Rule 17 Section 2 Article 3 (CONGRESS Getting Involved???)

Then maybe the Seahawks can ask for a replay of Super Bowl 40 as the ref actually said he “kicked calls” and impacted the result.

Goodell is a moron but he isn’t stupid enough to do this under these circumstances.

Could this be a thing?

Michael Thomas calls for reversal of NFC Championship outcome

Saints Players tweeting it out....

They should. Play it out from the 1:40 ish mark at the 5 yard line. It has been shown game is over at that point with the Rams burning their timeout and the Saints running out the clock after that and kicking a 20 yarder.

Considering how egregious that call was...an organization with integrity would do such a thing. The NFL isn’t, so they won’t.

This was so blantantly bad AND it involved a shot to the head, if there was any time this is it. It wasn’t holding, or offsides etc. It was a rocketship hit to the head about 2 seconds before the ball arrived.

Per rule they wouldn't have to replay entire game, just go to the point of the non call with a 1st and 10 at LAR 5 yard line with about 1:48 left in the 4th.

They could do this next Sunday and would only take 10 minutes to finish the game assuming Payton doesn't screw up the clock. Rams could stop them from scoring a TD and still have enough time to attempt a FG on their own to end up at OT again.

In other words, the call didn't necessarily guarantee a different outcome. It's not happening but maybe it should.

EDIT: I'm late with this take, lol

As the article said, "highly unlikely". But then again, what's the point of having that rule.
The point of having that rule is for a palpably unfair act, not for a bad call.

Even Goodell isn't stupid enough to do this. Can you imagine the pandora's box such a move would create?

Not a chance this gets invoked for this situation. Goodell would destroy the league if he was stupid enough to do it.
Sincere question.... Can you think of a valid situation where this could be reasonably applied?

The “12th man” for Bama half a century ago coming off the bench and making a tackle would be the kind of unfair act that triggers this rule.

Not for a terrible ref call.

It was a bad no-call. You cannot set a precedent like this. The Saints still has numerous opportunities to win the game.

If they replayed every game that was majorly affected by a bad call we'd still be awaiting the arrival of SB I

I wonder if the league will tell the refs to go easy on the Pats to help “make this go away”. Wishful thinking
I wouldn't want that anyway, simply call the game fairly for both sides. Don't need any controversial wins.

Would you really really want to set the precedent; and thereby give Gotohell the ability to use this new found power to punish other wayward teams like those who 'have a home field in the North-Eastern US' and are "guilty of egregiously complying with the law of gravity to the detriment of the league."

they love having the Pats in The Soup Bowl

The Saints are joke organization for even playing this card. You lost. Got plenty of home calls throughout the game. If I’m a fan I’m angry. Players and coaches should look in the mirror here, as there is plenty to second guess. But they seem to want to shift the narrative away from Payton and Brees, who choked the game away.

Here's the thing. When the league comes out and immediately after the game apologizes for a blown call, the league is admitting that it would have affected the outcome of the game. |

And, since it IS in the Rules that the Commissioner can order that the game be replayed from that play onward, I would think that a really good lawyer could make the argument to compel the league to replay the remainder of the game. And they DO have a venue they can use for it next weekend..
Man that would be effed up

According to the rule you can... That would be one of the remedies of a situation bad enough for rule 17 section article 3

Even if they tried to recreate it, they couldn't - tired players, emotionally exhausted. Screaming fans. Hell, there might be some banged-up players feeling better or worse.

it wouldn't nearly be the same thing.

If Tomlin kneed your kick returner who was taking it to House with OT kick off perhaps?

Bad calls happen. People really think it would be “more fair” to take away the Rams game tying drive, the Brees interception, and the 57-yard game winner?

Wow.
