RIP -Pat Burns

The best way I can possibly define Pat Burns' legacy in a nutshell is this: he was a man who commanded and EARNED the respect of his players both on and off the ice.

His teams were often disciplined, played with an edge and went out with a bang. While the Cup so often alluded him, you best believe a Pat Burns coached team was going to be in your face and playing to their best. A playoff appearance was an expectation, not the norm.

Hockey lost a hell of a tough guy in Pat Burns.. There won't be another quite like him.

he was way too young... RIP

When he was the Canadian coach he had them playing extremely tight. You could play them skate for skate throughout the game but if you made 3 small mistakes you would lose 3-0. They rarely made mistakes and they rarely left their backside exposed. They would wait for you to expose your backside though and they were very good at it.

We didn't have the skaters to truly play his system when he was here. he tried to adapt to what we had but his system needed tight forecheckers with a few blazing skaters who could make you pay for your mistakes. i would have let him stay here ... he just needed another season or 2 to get the right players.
