Rewatching SB49 and SB51...

BOTH 49 and 51 were played after Defamegate.

49 was played after the accusations, and there was definitely a media circus surrounding it. But I consider Defamegate to start when the NFL finished their investigation, realized they had zero evidence, then started to manufacture an argument, carry through with legal proceedings, and eventually suspend Brady for nothing.

With the original accusations, they should investigate, I understand that. But there was a moment (I don't know exactly when) where Goody decided they didn't have anything, but he would lie anyways. To me, that is the official start of this going from due diligence to league-wide cover up.

I can watch Sb 49 over and over. There were too many exciting/game changing plays in that and it was a close game till the end. On the other hand, SB51 wasn't good until late in the 3rd qtr. If I were to watch it again, I'll skip to late 3rd qtr and watch till the end. There were many exciting plays in SB51 as well but not many until late in the game.

One thing about 51 that's sitting nice with me.... no Jet stains.

The "first dynasty" of 2001 - 2006 were defense-first teams; the team won in 2001, 2003, and 2004 largely on the back of its defense. The offense had varying degrees of success, with 2004 being its best, and all the while Brady slowly transformed into a great QB.

Since then, the Pats have been offense-first. Many people were concerned that we were turning into the Colts, and there was definitely truth in that -- like most offensive juggernauts, they eventually got stopped by good defenses in its playoff losses in 2007, 2009 (understood it wasn't as good of an offense), 2010, 2011, and 2012. The Pats did not have a defense that could pick up the slack, not even in 2007 which was sort of the last-gasp of the old teams. There were concerns Belichick lost his touch as a defensive guy and couldn't adapt to the new Polian era.

Belichick finally got a good defense again and won a Super Bowl.... after bringing Jet-stained Revis in as a mercenary. We laugh about how Revis had to go to the Pats to win a Super Bowl. But some have said that the Pats couldn't win the Super Bowl without resorting to bringing Revis in. Revis himself tweeted that prior to the 2015 season (he then deleted it and claimed his account was hacked).

2016 proves to those doubters that BB can build a defense again. The entire secondary minus Rowe is home-grown, and Rowe was an opportunistic trade, not major FA signing. And from our perspective, we can watch modern Super Bowl win and not feel like we sold our souls seeing Revis out there, like we may when watching 2014 highlights.

I want to laugh every time I watch the replay of Super Bowl 49. After the Butler INT and the first kneel down, that's when the fight breaks out.

Collinsworth starts his rant while the fight is still going on. "You know if you're Seattle, then......whatever. But if you're the Patriots, you're 18 seconds from winning the Super Bowl, you don't touch anybody!!"

Yep, if I had a nickel for every time possession was awarded to the opposing team because of a fight on the field..........

And it turns out that yep, a frustrated Seahawks player started that fight.

Yeah, that game was more about 'surviving' and holding onto that lead.

The Pats were huge underdogs and I was just thankful, thankful, thankful for the win. If we're being honest it certainly wasn't a great offensive performance. Tom Brady had a total of 92 passing yards until that final drive.

True but it still was developing, it was way too early to figure out what happened.
Now that a judge laughed at the case and that b*tch goodell wouldn't stop and Brady finally accepted the suspension, 51 was more impactful.


Also some of you guys are talking about how Seattle was a juggernaut, I agree but let's not forget how our defense stopped the number 1 offense scoring a single point with almost 9 minutes still left in the third even after losing an onside kick and ATL being in fg range in the fourth.

Correct me if I'm wrong but ATL averaged almost 40 ppg and we held them to zero in the last 24 minutes of the biggest game while scoring 31 unanswered?
That to me blows 49 out of the water.

Overall game as a pats fan, sure 49 was easier to watch but what happened in 51 cannot be topped.
