Sources: Giants expected to land Edwards - NFL - Yahoo! Sports

It probably belongs on the football forum, but I thought it would be of interest to Pats fans. The report, for what it's worth, offers some new information in terms of suggesting that a deal will be done before the draft, and in terms of defining the picks/players being negotiated. A second and a fifth for Edwards would not seem that much, even with a player thrown in. I'm surprised Jay Cutler isn't trying to get the Bears to ante up that much.

Guy had 16 drops last year, I couldn't stand him if I was a Browns fan.

Still would be a big improvement over their current #1 receiver. Would prefer him going to Chicago instead as I hate any move that helps the Giants.

Umm... the Bears just gave up a sh*tload for Cutler himself, and undeservedly. Plus he's already known as a *****y little whiner... don't think the first thing he wants to do once he gets to Chicago is start telling management how to run their organization.

They may end up signing Torry Holt, since I'd assume Orlando Pace would be lobbying for him to go play there.

Giants should get Edwards if they can. He is better than Plax imo, even if he doesn't get them back into the SB he will still sell jerseys which is why any signing happens in NY anyhow.

16 Drops helps the Giants? Let his lazy butt go to the Giants. Don't get me wrong, he is a great talent....but doesn't seem to care enough to go the extra mile. New York media will rip him apart if he has a similar amount of drops.

Goober will get frustrated with him early, I really don't see them getting a timing pattern down, bad fit in my personal opinion.

Besides, the Pats are winning the Superbowl this year, I don't care who they play.

***EDIT: Sorry quoted the wrong poster.

If the Giants feel they can focus him and he bonds with Manning, then this is a great move for the Giants. Edwards has ability, he just needs a little courage and a bit of focusing.

16 Drops is the number you guys should not look at I think it is the 16 TD that he caught in 2007 when he had a steady young QB. Just imagine what Brady would do with this guy opposite Moss??

Yea Mayo you are out to lunch giving up one of our three second rounds picks and a fifth for a 26 y/o 6' 3" 215lbs Pro bowl game breaking receiver

For the record, Mike Lombardi noted in this morning's column that he agrees that this is likely to happen.

The National Football Post | Diner Morning News: Giants & Edwards

Per Mayock and McShay on ESPN First Draft, a deal between Cleveland and the Giants for Edwards is likely to happen during the 1st round on Saturday if the WR Cleveland wants is available. That could be Crabtree at #5, or another WR at 29 where the Giants pick such as Hakeem Nicks or Kenny Britt.

CNNSI also reports that such a trade will happen if Crabtree is available at #5.

I highly doubt the Giants will just outright give Cleveland their #1 pick. What I can see is the Giants and Browns MERELY swapping their #29 and #36 overall, respectively as part of the deal(of course, the latter is a high 2nd rounder).

That would seem far too little. However, you appear to be right about the Giants balking at giving up their #1 pick. The NY Daily News reports that the Edwards trade talks are dead because of just that issue.

What is SO GOOD about Edwards to begin with? Sure - he has phenomenal talent, and runs great routes, but his _hands_ are HORRIBLE. You just can't rely on him much on 3rd downs.

From what I've read, this year's draft actually has VERY good WR talent, even more so than last year. The Giants can pick up a good #1 with their #29. Or better yet, what if Brandon Pettigrew is still on the board when they pick? The tandem of him and Kevin Boss in 2 TE sets can really make that offense sick, even without much WR talent.
